STAGE 12 TRACKING

STAGE 12: Arequipa > Nasca

Connection 412km | Special Stage 245km | Total 657km

COURSE OVERVIEW

Only a flight over the region can allow the Nazca Lines, mysterious motifs created in the ground more than 2,000 years ago, to be admired. The route of the special stage creates another line on the map of Peru which looks like a sand dragon. Although the areas of dunes are evenly spread out, the competitors will definitely remember one of them, which made a deep impression on the reconnaissance team. The dunes follow one after another continuously for almost twenty kilometres, transporting the drivers to a new dimension. As the sand will remain firm in this string of dunes, it will help the drivers to cross them without too much difficulty. But the most skilled dune-crossers will nevertheless be able to create a surprise, in particular three days before the final finish. Those who remember how to perform the "Mauritanian swerve" can save some precious minutes.

That would be RGM's 4th stage win in this years' Dakar.. RG's 6th career win

Great, now I can pay attention to the trucks! One of those guys gets stuck they can be out for hours...

20:38 Trucks: Disarray in the truck race

At present in the final zone of dunes around Nazca, several trucks are in difficulty: general standings leader Gerard De Rooy is losing time just like the leader of the special at CP1, Russian Andrey Karginov. Van Ginkel in his Ginaf truck is also encountering problems as well as Miki Biasion further on. The only man who seems to be taming the sand is the driver of the third Iveco truck, Dutchman Hans Stacey.

Gordon blows everyone away

American Robby Gordon has just crossed the finishing line with an amazing time of 2:14'32”, meaning he finishes 15'18” ahead of the previous best performer of the day, Russian driver Novitskiy. To the Hummer driver's credit, he attacked constantly and made no mistakes in the dunes. With the leaders aiming at protecting their leads in the general standings, this performance has to be put into perspective, even if it is spectacular.

I hate the French "put into perspective" the perspective is take your a-- whoppin like a man.

He has a point, the top 5 only Novitskiy has a reason to push and that is in hope of catching up to RG to take 4th. Everyone else needs a big mistake from the person in front of them to move up. Some good races further down the leaderboard though.

Perspective?? They are trying to wipe away a racing feat NEVER BEFORE ACCOMPLISHED at the Dakar by saying the rest of the sniveling leaders weren't trying? This is such bullshit! Name one driver who has won a stage starting in 22nd place by :15 minutes! Oh, and by the way, including Benedict Al-Attiyah!!!!!!
I pledge allegiance to the flag of Robby Gordon Motorsports and to the Planet for which it stands . One Planet under TOG with SPEED and butt kicking for all
