STAGE 5 TRACKING

STAGE 5: SAN SALVADOR DE JUJUY > UYUNI

Connection 315km | Special Stage 327km | Total 642km

COURSE OVERVIEW

All round vigilance is required for this second part of the marathon stage: in addition to managing mechanics, particularly the tyres, all the drivers will have to pay attention to their own bodies’ reactions. Entry into Bolivia is also marked by an abrupt increase in altitude, rising to 4,600m –the higher point in Dakar’s story- during the day’s special section. Technically, it is also in this stage that the rally steps up a gear, with the first off-piste sections as well as some navigational gems which might be a headache for some navigators…

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

Reviewing stage two NBCSN video, wondering if Robby was penalized the hour for assistance from non-competetors when he was pulled out of the mud by a tractor. Officials may have figured an hour+ was typical of time lost by others that got themselves out.

Robby and Sheldon Pro water crossing. Sheldon is on it

Do you have the time Creed appears?

Almost the end

Wow. Creed keeps driving like that and he is going to steal all of Robby's Argentinian fans.

He was flying through that water crossing. Way faster than the rest of the cars before and after him. Keep it up Creed!

... Robby Gordon finished Stage 4 in the top 10, losing 8 minutes to Loeb for the day. There is some confusion about where Gordon sits in the overall standings following a one hour time penalty that was assessed today. While Gordon was allowed to leave the bivouac for the night following the mandatory ASO dinner, we have (not) been able to reach him for comment about the exact reason for such a severe time penalty.

Gordon’s teammate Sheldon Creed continues to move up in the rankings on each day, proving that he is a quick learner (and Robby Gordon made a wise decision when choosing his teammate for Dakar). He finished Stage 4 in 26th place and now sits in 25th overall. Creed did receive a speeding penalty for the day, however the information on his two required GPS units were inconsistent with each other, so the penalty is being protested. The marathon stage required that drivers return to the bivouac for fuel and then leave them in Parq Ferme, where they are not allowed to work on them at all. Fortunately both Gordinis are in good condition, so Team Speed should be resting easy tonight. With a 310 kilometer liaison prior to Stage 5, we expect there will be a few teams sorting out issues on the road in the morning.
