STAGE 5 TRACKING

STAGE 5: CHILECITO > TUCUMAN

Connection 384km | Special Stage 527km | Total 911km

COURSE OVERVIEW

After two race days with completely separate routes, everyone will gather together to tackle the longest stage of the rally. They will need to be extremely resistant to overcome these two sections of the special stage which will primarily feature sand. All day long the competitors will make headway on off-piste sections: those who have poorly assessed the limits of their engine will constantly be on the verge of overheating and all the more so, as the region’s temperatures are generally very high. At the bivouac in Tucuman, the candidates for the podium will have been whittled down to a select few, as many of them will no longer be a part of this elite group. For many others, their timing and mechanical mishaps will only become apparent in the middle of the night.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

The English version....

After two navigational errors whilst he was opening the way on the day's stage, Carlos Sainz has stopped at the 163 km point. The trace of his various positions during the last few minutes is very erratic. It seems as though the Spaniard is completely disorientated.

Also....

Stéphane Peterhansel has also fallen into the trap after 162 km. The tracking of his route, just like Carlos Sainz, shows plenty of hesitations (ten changes of direction in 30 minutes).

Hope Kellon's skills don't lead them down that same path.

Sucks for Sainz, but not so much for Peternutsak.

Really!

10 changes of direction and is still just 1:17 back!!

What change of direction waz dat mean.......dunes and sand he could be just rolling the straddle.....humping the lumps....slidding the pepper......catching the drift......grabbing a handful....going to mark....

Looks like Peter Pan is gonna loose this year… another 30 minutes lost

Peterhansel 34 minutes behind roma at WP5

ASO wasn't going to do anything, but with Peterhansel getting lost, stage will be cancelled.

Great day for RG to make up big blocks of time.

Somebody know what the hell is going on this stage? the ASO give wrong routebooks? why is everybody getting lost?

This is Dakar, I love the fact that things like this happen
