Join in and discuss all the action from Stage 9 of the 2013 Dakar Rally. Robby Gordon recorded his 4th straight 3rd place finish in Stage 8, but remains 23rd overall. Gordon is still down over 5 hours in the overall, but will get yet another good starting spot in an attempt to win his first stage of the rally. The cars are slated to begin the special section of stage 9 at 8:03am/et and Robby Gordon will begin his special section around 8:09am/et. Raceday chat will be available throughout the entire 2013 Dakar Rally.

COURSE OVERVIEW
Trucks will have pride of place when the rally resumes, only competing in one of the two parts of the special stage, but they will have the rare privilege of setting off first. The stage’s profile with quick tracks will be favourable to specialists of torturous routes. In the other categories, as the distance has been doubled it will also allow for an additional, much more technical section, where, in particular, the drivers will negotiate the bends in the forest. They will have to watch out for trees, given that the rapid assistance trucks won’t have access to the route. The competitors will have to be extremely vigilant over the entire distance, which is, for all except for the bikers, the rally’s longest special stage.

I gotta say, I had to laugh at this quote from the Red Bull site. Nasser talks about yesterday :
Nasser Al-Attiyah: “The stage was going very well for us and we had the lead until the conditions on the stage changed. It was raining and lots of water was coming down from the mountains that made the rivers impossible to cross. We tried to look for another route to cross the river but there was no way. We decided we just had to stop and we called the race organisers to let them know there was no way to cross the river."
They "decided" they had to stop. Picked a nice parking place from which to make the call from, I'd say.
In any case, still no word on the Red Bull site about today's mishap.
No matter what face he wants to paint on the thing, I for one will hate to see him out. Anyone who says he's not a quick driver, or has not added excitement to the action has not been paying attention.

Nasser is a mad man behind the wheel of a racecar. I would have much rather seen Peckerhandfulls Mini floating down river than see Nasser stuck and most likely out of the Rally after today.

This goes for all of us - every human being alive. It does not take long until whatever you are hiding becomes apparent. If you like to speak in spin and twisted tales, before too long those that interact with you will know. It's all so basic really.
I read stuff like this and I wonder if it's satire and parody. It seems so far from the truth and comical.
I think, "Wow! Nasser! You spend your whole day racing to the amazement of many - you really are a good driver. Then, when that brief moment comes for you to share with your OWN WORDS about a most amazing day, you share spin! You share a twisted tale!
Further, what did this gain you? Your call to the ASO perhaps influenced their decision to red-flag the stage, but I don't think their decision was based solely on your call. In fact, I think they would have reached the same decision, had you not even called.
So Nasser, a day later you are out of the race just the same, but your WORDS, your WORDS Nasser, they are still with us. They will remain much longer!"
Nasser is still alive so he can change. I can only hope that he does! There is more I could say, but I think this is point enough for now.
