I admit this is a bit of a shocker, but it would be cool if he could work out some sort of deal with Robby.

Valid points, all. Considering "Indy Car" racing is almost as it was before the Tony George mess. Ovals and road courses before the IRL and now ovals and road courses. Mixed nationality drivers before the IRL and now mixed nationality drivers. Turbo engines before the IRL and now turbo engines. I tend to agree with the point of "cookie cutter" cars in both series. Although I think both series are, "semi-trying", to work with the manufacturers to get brand indentity back to the chassis, bodys and engines.

Jeez - when there isn't much in the way of racing happening the forums get nasty.
While this is an interesting thought - I think the Planet Members here are missing the bigger picture.
It's not whether RG can be successful in NASCAR, it's whether it makes sense for the SPEED brand. And, I think we all have our answer to that given the RedBull and AMP scale back.
It's not a demographic match....plain and simple. Add to that issue the governance problems with series (France family) and declining popularity and it just seems like a bad investment.
I would wager (though I have no fact) that RG is planning to do Sonoma and The Glen because he likes them....not so much because the return on investment is fantastic.
I'm looking forward to June 1 - something new with an emphasis on driver skill. Though, that Kevin Williams (sp?) interview on Down and Dirty pumped this thing up so much I doubt it will match my expectations.

Good post. I would venture to say that RCs provide the greatest ROI for RG. But certainly, he does really enjoy those courses.

Thanks for kind words. RE: road course return. Upon reflection, I think you're correct - they probably "make money". Though, that would seem to be from sponsorship OTHER than SPEED. (Still a "good")
This is sort of an interesting transitory time. RGM is moving from Robby Gordon Motorsports to "Robby Gordon Marketing". We are starting to see (can't wait for tomorrow) changes in thinking from how to be successful racing to "how to build a sustainable and successful energy drink business"
I'm quite certain this has been in RG's head for a long, long time - we're just starting to see the decisions manifest themselves.
Truthfully, this is more exciting to me. There are many racing venues with which I have no affilliation or connection with a driver. The SPEED umbrella starts to open that up and give me someone to cheer for across a broad spectrum of events.
An Olympics analogy is popping into my head. I don't need to know each competitor to root for my country. Similar...on a much smaller scale.
