MWR press release via Jayksi's:

Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) announced Friday that Marcos Ambrose is scheduled to drive for the racing organization in the Sprint Cup Series Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway with Little Debbie as primary sponsor. The #00 MWR Toyota team will switch to the #47 number for the final four events. At this time, the Michael Waltrip Racing #47 driver is to be determined for Texas, Phoenix and Homestead [Ambrose was scheduled to run all three races in the #21 Ford and #47 Ford, the the MWR changed that, but he could end up in the #47 Toyota for the 3 races]. “It’s really nice to have a head start on the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season and integrate Marcos with our team,” Waltrip said. “We are pleased that NASCAR worked with us to switch our number so that Marcos and his sponsors have continuity. I, of all people, know the importance of car numbers to sponsors. We are very appreciative that everything worked out. This is a great opportunity for Marcos and it gives him a glimpse of what next season may look like for him. We are really happy about that.”

“It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to come to Michael Waltrip Racing,” Ambrose said. “There is a lot of synergy here and I am looking forward to qualifying the #47 Little Debbie Toyota. Racing with the organization gives me the chance to have an early start on getting to know my team, Michael Waltrip and how the company operates."

NASCAR loves Ambrose. NASCAR loves Daugherty. They are setting the 47 up with the 00's points. Hopefully Ambroses inexperience on the ovals will show at Atlanta. If Ambrose does well he probably will continue driving for the next race. It might be a Marcos / Robby fight to the finish for the last top 35 spot. I hope Nascar doesn't do something to keep Robby out of it because they want Ambrose and maybe more so Daugherty in.
For those of you that don't know, Brad Daugherty was a neighbor and good friend of Bill France Jr. and the relationship has gone on with Brian France. They are very good friends. There has even been talk that Brad could come to work for NASCAR but the right opportunity has not come along.

Brad Daughtery may be buddy-buddy with the Frances and he seems like a nice guy......I just find him somewhat annoying.
Brad has worked for Nascar for quite some time, piloting their diversity program.
Marcos has shown well for himself running ovals full time the last three years. And I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Aussie Vineyards back him up at some point when he goes Cup racing...

more like a punishment if you ask me.........

Good pick by MWR, the guy can be a threat to win at both roadies and diversity (Australian market). Daugherty is a minority which also attracts Nascar.

I think Marcos would have been a good 2nd car option for RGM, but RGM is struggling to keep 1 car afloat. RGM needs to finish in the top 35 in '08 and then merge with Penske, lease out the R&D, engines and crews from Roger, if lucky he can get a premium ride for Indy and let Rusty Wallace run the 600 for him.
if only that would happen
Well I know this much, it seems on paper the MWR is making some moves to move them ahead for next year. With the hiring of Ambros, they had a guy come in from F1 to help with the tech stuff (thats thinking outside the box) and alligning themselves with some decent organizations. Some of those allignments are things i read "may happen" I am not sure if they did. I hate MW but I hate to see him making what seems to be moves that are going to make his team better. He is def. a better biz-man than driver!
Where does this leave the Wood Bros? They've been working out of the JTG's Harrisburg shop. With JTG-Daughtery's partnership with MWR, losing their primary (Little Debbie) and Ambrose, it would appear that the Wood Bros would sent packing back to Virginia. RIP.

indeed
I think it's more of an example of choosing your dance partners wisely.
