Weirdest races seen

With all the stuff going on at the 500 with the rain delays , fire , etc what were the weirdest race you have seen

That I've actually seen too only it was a mini stock Ford Escort lol

How about the this years Indy 500. 500 Rookie J. R. Hildebrand hits the wall on the last turn of the last lap letting Dan Wheldon win which led ultimately to his tragic accident.

Not counting various short-track stuff I'd have to say the Mercedes flip at LeMans 1999. A Porsche also did the same thing in 1998 at the Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta.

The Joey Hand crash at Mid-Ohio a few years back was pretty crazy too. IIRC that was one of those "famous" Mid-Ohio access roads that caused that, he was lucky that wasn't a career ender.

Joey Hands crash was right after the track was paved at Mid Ohio. They were not access roads but they made 2 turns so that the track could be used for 2 drivers school type events simultaneously. The first being a very small oval using the keyhole as the top of the oval and the second one turning right shortly after turn 1 and cutting to the back straight without using the keyhole. I raced there the weekend after Hand's crash and the track personnel took some of us around the track to see what happened. They mistakenly made a ramp with the cut through road and a drainage area. They fixed it right after our SCCA weekend. You are right he was very lucky.

Well in all my travels the weirdest race is the human race...I mean a race that nobody wins what are you folks thinking. However I can't truly define weird, that would be like asking a fish what water is but if you have ever been to a good bike meet the "greasy plank" I believe is the proper name is a weird one, also a big fan of a boot race that's always great. Weird, car stuff I can't add anything to what you guys have tal................hold the phone, a race where the winner is the one who does not run out of gas and then it rains and ends the race and a complete career is built off of that one race that is a complete fabrication in the eyes of time that's a weird race, so yes I stand pat.....................hands down it's the human race.

I think if you asked EGR this Daytona 500 was the weirdest race ever. Check out this picture that I got. It is the guys in the EGR shop cutting up the #42 car in order to get the engine out.

Surfers Paradise 2002 CART race in a torrential downpour. It was surreal and would have been funny except Adrian Fernandez ended up with a back broken in two places. When Mario Dominguez celebrated his win in a rain shortened race where he took out half the field, let's just say it was priceless. Also I think the announcers were in New York working off of a satellite feed and half in the bag.

I do not know if I would call it weird or just a pain in the A$$ race. But remember the Cup California race with the weepers in the track. I think there were people there all night until they called it for the next day.
