Quotes from Stage 10 of the 2012 Dakar Rally

Robby Gordon - Finished 4th

" I hit a rock with both right-side tires and as you can see this wheel is way out, so we've got some broken parts. Do I think I can win again? Of course. I was passing him [Peterhansel], he didn't move over and I clobbered a rock and got two flat tyres at the same time. So, we've got our work cut out for us. We've got a damaged race car that we're going to have work on and there's a lot of damage from what I can see. Now we'll push, push, push even harder."

"About 30km from the finish, I was right on Peterhansel's tail and we were hitting the sentinel telling him we were there. After multiple times he wouldn't move over. We both missed a way point, and I tried my hardest to get around him. When I got in his dust, we had a big crash. Should have rolled the thing, but it blew the rear wheel off the truck as well as hurt the A-arm and transmission. Being down nearly 20 minutes is a lot, but we won't let that stop us. We'll work through the night to get the car ready for tomorrow. Anything can happen...they can have a bad day too." Gordon commented after moving to third in the overall standings.

Go Robby go. You can win this I have all the faith in you.

Any idea when we will be able to see video of the attempted overtake that resulted in the wreck?

TOG, what kind of inspections are done before the race...???. Could the 'changes' that are charged against Robby be made btwn inspections....? Are the inspections done daily? I didn't just fall off the turnip truck, I know Robby sometimes resembles "Peck's Bad Boy", (That will show my age, lol) but I would think that this race is too important to RGM to screw with anything.Maybe I just want to believe that too bad.

Marcos Ambrose just called Stephane Peterhansel and warned him to watch his back bumper.

Robby doesn't fit the ASO's profile of a Dakar champion.....AKA Clown car, Non USA driver, less that 8 cylinders....Was getting too close to a win so they had to pull a truly Bogas rule infraction out of their ass... I really thought Dakar was a true test of Off Road endurance and ran/promoted by Pro's... Sad

Does anybody know what the item or items or changes they made were illegal?. Do they just check the stage winner? Or are they random checks? If it was on his car before the race and even last year and the scrutineering team approved it then i'd say it's on them..

Oh Yee of little faith --- remember the only reason Nasser won last year was because Peter ( whatever) went out on the next to last day of the Dakar and the number 2 driver had gone out the day before. Nasser, like Robby when he drove for Volkswagen, was the number 3 driver there to provide spare parts and water bottles. 20 minutes is a lot of time to make up but it is Robby Gordon --- and he is the best ever born.

Bill

I checked a French sports site and they have a video of the techs going in and pointing out the discovery and Robby goes over and talks it out. Something about the engine intake. My guess is maybe they put an extra filter (due to stage 9 Fesh Fesh) and it was illegal - only a theory http://dakar.sport.francetv.fr/   it looks pretty bad.  I get the impression

This does not read very well for RG ... hope it's no true!

A decision was to take place Wednesday. The punishment finally fell after the 10th stage from the race with the crew after a non-compliance with sections 1P and 3P. "Nous avons rendu obligatoire l'installation d'une +bride+ à l'entrée du conduit d'air, limitant sa capacité d'absorption afin de réduire les performances dans le mélange air/essence", a expliqué le directeur de course David Castera. "We have mandated the installation of a flange + + at the entrance of the air duct, limiting its ability to reduce absorption performance in the air / fuel mixture," said race director David Castera . Clamped his Hummer, Gordon has found another way to bring air into the engine thanks to its inflation-deflation of the tires. In deriving this compressor to bypass the flange of the regulation, boost its American V8 engine with a push of a button on the dashboard. He doubled the authorized power with numbers ranging from 600 to 700 horsepower. Pratique mais interdit ! Practice but prohibited!

haha 600 to 700 hp just like that,. a hidden turbo,. haha,. fu.. idiots.

Ok got it. Now did Robby install this turbo system in between stages, or on the rest day? It passed pre-race tech. Something that big and involved is not hidden!

Well the true colors of Dakar, ASO and the other race teams are showing loud and clear!
The right thing for ASO to do would be, admit that the idiots in tech clearly missed it, have RG's team disconnect it and figure out a fair time penalty, although the modification would not help unless it was blowing through the throttle body anyway?

yeah i hate f#^$ng french and also i think nasser was a VERY bad idea , keep it betwen americans guys...Andy Mc millin should been racing the second hummer
