CATAWBA, N.C. -- Catawba County authorities say NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield was arrested on drug charges Tuesday evening.

Mayfield, 42, was arrested at his rural mansion on Hudson Chapel Road in Catawba when police found methamphetamines while executing a search warrant for stolen property, according to the Catawba County Sheriff.

He has not been charged with stolen property found in his home, but police tell NewsChannel 36 some of the stolen items are racing memorabilia. Mooresville police and Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies searched the property after receiving a tip.

Mayfield has a court appearance for Wednesday. He is out of jail on a $3,000 bond.

He was suspended from NASCAR after failing a drug test in May 2009

Methamphetamine IS an ADD medication
Methamphetamine is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control.
Methamphetamine is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is also used to treat obesity after other diets or medications have been tried without successful weight loss.
Methamphetamine may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
I did not know that. I always thought that Jeremy's claim was bogus, but now I am completely confused. Does finding a gram of medication to help with his disorder justify calling him a "methhead" or a junkie for that matter? When the news broke of this I probably had the same reaction as many: Guess NASCAR was right about this guy. Now I am not so sure and will hold off on passing judgement. Thank you for enlighening me with this information about methampfetamine.

The junkies are the ones that give the drug a bad name and took Sudafed off the shelf.
I didn't know it either but I found that on www.drugs.com
Addiction is a terrible disease whether it be drugs or alcohol. I hope Jeremy gets the help he needs and can begin recovery.
Agreed -In the picture above, he doesn't look like a hardcore addict - hope that means his journey back might be shorter.
