Good stuff today, and it doesn't matter who he drafted with. He was slow in practice before and slow in qual. So in the 150 he had the rep of being "slow". Being at the front end today in a two car train makes him "fast" and so when someone sees the orange 7 tomorrow he should be thought of as "fast" and should be able to find partners. Keep your fingers crossed.
Totally agree with ya Mark . When all the cars are out there there will be alot more people willing to hook up pushing or being pushed
Very Cool!!

Happy Hour Practice: for the Daytona 500 Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway is over, the fastest, slowest and notes:

#7-Gordon 199.743
#22-Busch 199.459
#78-Smith 199.442
slowest: #39-Newman 178.877 and #46-Yeley 189.286
37 of 43 drivers practiced.
not practicing: #'s 09,14,24,48,83,92.
See all practice speeds on the Daytona Practice Speeds page.(2-19-2011)
Where did we find the speed??? Octane or Fuel, diff. not unleaded,LOL
Very good. as David z says, a positive note going into tomorrow.
0.573 mph slower than the fastest car..

which is awesome.

great start to the weekend.

lets keep up the momentum!

by the way, finally had octane... holy crap! best of the flavours
It seemed in the Busch race that Danica was only comfortable being pushed from behind.

Too bad she is not in the race tomorrow in case this mirage of team work with the 2 does not work out, since nobody wanted to be in that position with Robby in the duels.
dancia likes it from behind....there, some body had to say it....
And saying, Oooh Daddy?
Danica ,,,behind,,,Slider7,,,, OHH MYY
I've got my Picture with her, Oh yah
True or not, I was sorry to hear RG talking about how fucked up this whole new Daytona situation is, because quite frankly, I think it's unlikely that anyone with that attitude is going to do well on Sunday. I suspect there are some drivers who actually do feel optimistic about their ability to finish near the front, so who would you rather partner with ?

It was great to see that RG could do well with Brad, but I suspect the speed was in the #2 rather than the #7, and it's hard for me to believe that any of the big boys who may find themselves hooked up with Robby won't dump him as soon as "someone better" presents them with the opportunity to do so.

As goofy as all this racing has been, it seems that those who pick a partner, and then patently stick with them come hell or high water, have been the ones with the most consistent results. Even if RG has to run with someone else who qualified slow, sticking with that car, rather than constantly looking to "trade up" in a frenzy of wife-swapping, would seem a reasonable strategy.

As far as future races at Daytona, if nothing changes, and I had a multi-car team, I'd be at the wind tunnel designing matched pairs of cars : one for the front and one for the back, and then let my drivers flip a coin for who gets the front car. Granted they may have to swap throughout the race, but when crunch time comes, they could configure themselves as designed and then go to the front.

It would not surprise me if some pairs ( #31 + #33 ) weren't already set up that way...

I'm with those who feel that the 500 will indeed be interesting, and that there will be a large number of wrecks. Simply the fact that half the drivers will essentially have no forward visibility would seem to assure that we'll see a crash-fest, with more cars will be involved in each crash.

Which, of course, will be all good as far as NASCAR is concerned.
