Do you think Watkins Glen is a make ore break race for RGM?

Since Robby started his own team he's had sponsorship, but this year it appears the economy is hitting Robby hard. Of course this is just looking from the outside. I have no idea inside RGM how financially stable the team is. But showing up weekly without decals is not good.

Alot of people would have love to see Robby at Montreal, but I believe Robby testing Wed at Road Atlanta speaks volumes. (By the way did you know Robby shared every note with Marcos Ambrose's team for Montreal)
The team seemed to have found some things at Road Atlanta, I hope it pays off.

But, I would think if Robby could win at Watkins Glen what a huge boost it would be for RGM. Yes, it would give the team alot of momentum, but financially it would pay huge. Huge jump in points. Put RGM in the Winner's Circle program. Reserve Robby a spot in the 2009 All Star Race. Easier sell to sponsors.

Robby needs to have a Top 5 but finishing 25th or below would be a huge blow to RGM.

Top 35 seems to be getting less and less important. Only one team will be sent home without racing at Pocono this weekend.

Having said that, of course, the better he is in the points picture, the more saleable he is to sponsors.
there's 2 races a year where RGM gets any press, this is 1 of them. all of rgm must bring their A game that whole weekend. RG has longest drought on wins for any active driver now.

everyone swears how good he is on the roadies, time to put up which i think he can.
bingo! Years ago Robbys bad laps on road courses were on par with most teams good laps. Nowadays on a road course when RG runs a bad lap he loses time to other cars. He has to be picture perfect to win these road races nowadays, especially since he sucks at qualifying.
Yeah as much as I hate to admit it the competition has definitely cought Robby on the road courses. I still think he's one of the best on the road course, but the number of drivers that are truly competitive at road courses has dramatically improved. I don't think this is a make or break race, at least I hope not. I hope that he can pull out the broom and bring back some cash and momentum. It's sort of sad that I am looking at this as a "Man I wish he could win a pole so he would be in the shootout at Daytona, it would be a great race to offer sponsors" I mean how many fans of other drivers are thinking about things like that before a race? Well I wouldn't change drivers for the world, but that shootout sure would be nice!!! If We Could Just Get One Clean FAST Qualifying Lap!!!
There has to be a word worse than "sucks' to describe Robby's qualifying.
Blows?
There are probably a dozen cars that will be threats to win in the Cup race, and at least a half dozen in the Nationwide race.
Top 35 rule will be tougher next year. RCR will have a 4th car and both Stewart/Haas teams will be stronger.

Robby has to finish inside the Top 35
Robby brought his off road guys out to NC for a few days to review his cup program (cars) with fresh eyes... They found a few huge but simple fixes and you will see a major difference this weekend... FOR SURE!

By the way, RG tested at Road Atlanta with these changes... 2 seconds faster than the next guy... The Glen will be retribution for RGM!
Oh Fly, I hope you're right! My fingers are crossed!
Thanks for the info Fly.

Robby has 2 chances to win a cup race. Missed out on 1, this is the 2nd. He has finished top 5 a few times there since he started RGM, so I am hopeful that he will play his cards right and he and Walter can pull off a win.
Hopefully he has a chance in the Nationwide race as well.
is that right, Fly? What'd they do? Take the RWD system out, put in a part time AWD system with a viscous clutch to increase traction off corners so there's no wheel spin? I guess they might have some issues with over 700 HP to the ground with an all wheel drive, possibly some binding going on there, especially with the car of tomorrow's high center of gravity. Of course I'm sure they did something genius to be 2 seconds faster than the field and then when they show up to the glen lose all but 2 tenths of that, and then on raceday somehow forget what they did to make it that fast in practice.
