Going back to J.R.'s question on navigation, I found this little link that explains in a lot better than I muddled it.

@Mike, slow and slower. When the kid finally got serious about racing last spring it put a hit on my time & budget. Bottom end is all fresh, but the clutch is giving me some guff. I got a stock frame that I should pick up New Years, just needs some minor welding. Bought a pipe from a guy in AZ that makes new ones. So it really just needs a whole lot more parts, time, and money !!!

@Will, how is that project coming along? The CR engine I was working on is waiting on it's owner to paint the top end. That project need to be complete by the 14th for a vintage show. It's a 'for sale' unit now/when it's finished.

That's an excellent point Mike. That's why I have the son on a 2-stroke, it's something we can rebuild without help or busting the bank. I love the old air cooled 4-strokes for the grand kids and myself. Just roll 'em out and ride the shit out 'em, change the oil and clean the air filter. The modern 4-strokes require too much maintaince to keep a shop full of bikes running. As the grand kids get older, they will get 2-strokes and my old XR 400 will still start on the first kick every time. Now I just need me a 2-stroke to get back to racing on, the old Elsinore still needs a lot of work.

one of many aspect's of 4stroke MX engine is that they are not maintained properly. 4stroke  MX engines are closer to F1 engines than the engine in your car. They're treated by most like the engine in your daily driver. But I changed the oil, is what many believe is maintaining. These engine's have a duty cycle like all racing engines.Valves, valve springs, piston, rings, connecting rods all have a life cycle that is commonly overlooked/ignored.
