Stage 5 - Wednesday, January 7
Neuquen > San Rafael
Connection: 173 km | Special: 506 km | Connection: 84 km | Total: 763 km
The major test of the first week of the race will perhaps be fought on the road to San Rafael. The long distance will oblige teams to remain concentrated at all times. The pilots will also be confronted with real dune passageways, including a range nearly twenty kilometers long. Long off-road stretches will alternate with much more technical sections in the track following the “rios”. The Cordillera can be seen on the horizon, but taking time to sightsee is out of the question: a too-late arrival at the bivouac always leaves a mark.

Power steering pump bracket. Since the race Hummer uses a common belt for power steering, water pump, alternator, etc., they can't run with this bracket broken.
Had some time today to put into some Excel work on Dakar, but here what I found interesting.

Robby 309 Way Points time between them.

Start to KM 31 Robby 1st Time
KM 31 to KM 102 Robby 2nd in Time
KM 102 to KM 170 Robby 22nd, this is where I think they lost the power steering belt
KM 170 to KM 230 Robby 4th
KM 230 to KM 301 Robby 6th
KM 301 to KM 366 Robby 1st
KM 366 to KM 422 Robby 1st
KM 422 to KM 476 Robby 8th
KM 476 to Finish Robby 1st

So you can look at it that Robby won some Way Points but this is where you can tell where he is making up ground
Also he took off today at 10:00 AM Local Time and finshed the Special at 3:51 PM.

Compared to Eric in # 324 Start Time was 10:44 AM and Finished at 8:05 PM

Or Street on the Bike # 26 Start Time was 7:59 AM and Finished at 2:20 PM on a bike, plus he was Overall Today ont he Bikes.
They reported later from the Bivouac that it was a training pulley that broke.
Idler pully or Tension pully is what we call it up here.
A fresh belt for in the morning with no wear for the remainder of the sand we should bee fine.
I don't believe I've ever heard it called a training pulley, but I knew they meant tension pulley.

Just watched the video that Bruno put up for Stage 4, talking about the rollover, Robby said he was ready to rock 'n roll (my wording), he's got the 'roll' out of the way.... so nothing but ROCK from then on and he sure did today!!! (still Wednesday here ;) westcoaster)
