The Dakar web page states that Robby won todays stage in the "Open" class for cars. Are there different classes for the cars? If you look at the overall stage results for the cars it shows him placing 10th. I'm confused.

There are but they aren't listed anywhere that we can find, we don't know many are in the class. One is basically considered a 'production' car and then there's 'open'.

The daily "open" category is a joke. It's like a B-Ball team having only one 18 yr old and he wins the "18yrold of the game" award. A "win" to me is finishing FIRST in the daily STAGE.
