Join us for the Dakar Rally's first day on Jan 3, 2009 , right here and chat about the action during the first stage

Stage 1 - Saturday, January 3
Buenos Aires > Santa Rosa
Connection: 196 km | Special: 371 km | Connection: 166 km | Total: 733 km
Many have heard of La Pampa, where men are reputed to be “rough, but always courteous”. This first stage will provide the opportunity to discover the length of these vast plains. Dakar competitors have never faced such a long special. With over 400 km of rolling routes, perhaps the fastest on the program, this will constitute a real warm-up.

Now that the first 10 cars have made it through CP2, after 224 km of the special, Frenchman Guerlain Chicherit (BMW) leads, only 2" in front of German novice Dieter Depping (VW) and 19" ahead of Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah (BMW).
robby cross cp 3.. almost 10 minutes behind.. he needs to put the "Gas On"..
Alphands breaking news on engine problems does not seem to be slowing him down!

Street finished 5th in first stage on the bikes. Good Start for him.
Just checking in and read about slow tracker/updates how is Robby doing?
Thanks
Someone reported on Robbynews.com that he seems to be losing 3 minutes at each checkpoint and wondered if he had a slight problem.
