Robby Gordon is not scheduled to compete.

Saudi Arabia is +8 hours on Eastern Time / +11 on the West Coast.

January 5th-10th, the Rally Raid starts in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and races North East before racing to South Eastern city of Riyadh.

January 11th, Rest Day Riyadh

January 12th-17th, the Rally Raid continues from Riyadh through the South Eastern area of Saudi Arabia before heading to West, finishing in Qiddiya.

Thanks for all the updates and links Mike. The time difference makes it hard to get into the Dakar groove. The terrain and the changes have made it a difficult Dakar for some competitors.

As the bikes start their day I will cross my fingers that Andrew Short doesn't crash again. I hope he has a successful run today. I guess I'll find out in the morning since it is end of day here, which makes it hard to follow this Dakar. The terrain seems to be pretty challenging for the competitors and that seems to be good.

After 103 km, Toby Price has achieved the best time. The title holder has a lead of 51 seconds over Luciano Benavides and one minute over Sam Sunderland, meaning KTM currently occupy the first three places.

11:16 Sunderland falls and exits the race!
Another dramatic development on the Dakar 2020: after Adrien Van Beveren and Xavier de Soultrait, it is now Sam Sunderland’s turn to drop out of the rally following a severe fall after 187 km of the special. The Englishman, who won the Dakar in 2017, has injured his back and left shoulder.

11:58 Price on course for stage victory
Toby Price is riding towards his second stage victory in 2020. The KTM rider still leads by 2’28 over Pablo Quintanilla and boasts an advantage of just less than 3 minutes over Ricky Brabec, who is limiting the damage very well and should keep the lead in the general standings this evening. It is a different matter for Kevin Benavides, 12 minutes behind the Australian, and Ignacio Cornejo, who trails the stage leader by a quarter of an hour after 303 km.

12:37 Sainz takes the lead
Carlos Sainz is again seeking to stamp his mark on the day’s events. After 250 km, the two-time winner of the Dakar has moved into the lead, just 12 seconds in front of Nasser Al-Attiyah! Stéphane Peterhansel trails by 6 minutes, but the time of Yasir Seaidan has not yet been confirmed.

13:11 Sainz opens up a gap
Carlos Sainz continues to force the issue on the last part of this special. At 50 km from the finish, the leader of the general standings now boasts a lead of almost two minutes over Nasser Al-Attiyah. Stéphane Peterhansel is still 6 minutes behind.

13:24 Sainz wins like a boss
Carlos Sainz has won his second special in 2020 to reinforce his lead in the general standings. The Mini driver has finished almost 3 minutes ahead of his main rival Nasser Al-Attiyah, while Stéphane Peterhansel finished the day 6 minutes behind the Spaniard.

12:42 Useful rest for Despres
Forced to exit the race after breaking the engine on their buggy during the 3rd stage, Cyril Despres and Mike Horn took a day’s rest before resuming the race in the Dakar Experience format this morning. This has obviously helped the two men, because they have completed the first 103 km in the lead!

16:10 A tough day for Guthrie and Hinojo
Yesterday’s winner Mitchell Guthrie has had a much less successful day today. The young American driver finished 24 minutes behind the stage winner. The situation is worse for this morning’s general standings leader Jose Antonio Hinojo, who finished 35 minutes behind the stage winner, losing his lead in the general standings as a result. It is also a difficult day for Reinaldo Varela and Gerard Farrés who both trailed by more than an hour after 303 km.
