STAGE 10 TRACKING

STAGE 10: CALAMA > SALTA

Connection 501km | Special Stage 359km | Total 860km

COURSE OVERVIEW

The motorcyclists and quad bikers will set off for their second marathon stage! After the Chile-Argentina border, this time the day’s special stage will start on the Salinas Grandes, more than 3,600m above sea level. The altitude should curb the competitors’ enthusiasm and cool down their engines. The more technical final phase will separate the toughest of them from the rest. For the liaison section, the route will then follow the Paso de l’Acay, at an altitude of 4,970m.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

That was fun ! A whole lot of cars in the slow lane, speeding up to get a look !

Well having the Support truck bust up is bad and as per the number there is a 666 union Road in West seneca NY.... I don't know why the people painted the house red I thought the flaming waterfall was enough. Rough for sure ....perhaps these "rains" will wash some of Nasser' luster away.

Posts from someone on the RDC site, who apparently is down there with the team, indicate that the oil pressure problem remains an issue, and that conserving equipment in order to finish is now the main concern.

It would be interesting to know what was causing the low oil pressure I seem to remember in the road to dakar TV shows they got the engine and there were something wrong with it and had to be sent back I have no idea if that has anything to do with it. Just pondering

What causes low oil pressure that can't be fixed at night stop?

Update from Johnny Campbell

The special was approximately 370k followed by a 150k liaison to finally finish in Salta, Argentina.
Well it rained hard on the east side of the mountains and there was water and washouts galore. It even surprised veteran Dakar racer Nani Roma as he hit a ditch and flipped his "mini" end over end.
RG and started around 18th, found our selves quickly in 16th as two cars were having issues. We navigated the course with somewhat easy as the road book was clear and concise.
Unfortunately, we were still battling a low oil pressure issue and RG himself wasn't feeling well.
RG took it easy as we have three long days left in the rally and we want to assur our final destination in Buenos Aires this weekend receiving the final finish flag for the conclusion of Dakar 2015.
The piste was my favorite as it had incredible scenery and very picturesque.
Many River crossings and fans made it a great day despite the result.
Looking forward to stage 11 as we travel east bound toward BA.
The Speed Energy Team has been working all nighters to put in the best efforts on the car. Hats off to the crew.
Rest now,
Tomorrow is a new day with its own set of challenges.

Dang you gotta love JC's attitude. Bad news about the RG & the car not being at full strength. Was really hoping for a few stage wins this year.

Low oil pressure could have been caused by the flywheel failure early on. The rotating assembly (crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, flywheel and clutch), needs to be balanced or it can beat up the thrust bearings, main bearings and connecting rod bearings. When the ring gear broke it through the rotating assembly way out of balance I would imagine.

If it drops too much the cam will lock up or more than likely the connecting rod will seize and come through the block. Fingers definitely crossed. I would imagine he is shifting at lower rpm to both reduce the oil temperature and strain on the rods.
