Was wondering what the take is on who we, RG Fans, are cheering for during this years Daytona 500. I say Paul Menard, his Dad has always supported Robby throughout the years. Maybe Casey Mears...

Compare with Morgan Shepherd. No doubt who wins. At this point in time, Danica.

RG should pull RP's move & challenge DP to SSY at Long Beach GP!!!
Real Balls on Tony's part, challenging a 76 year old to race darling Danica. Let Richard pick someone not in Cup to race, preferably Rob, and then see what happens. I think We all know the answer to that question.

Tony didn't start it,he's defending his employee.Amirola has one Busch win and 2 Truck win's.Not exactly an over achiever.Petty should worry about his team.

Hey Jeb, Petty isn't going to get much love on this forum. The people here know too much about racing to be fooled by the Petty / NASCAR horse shit and gun smoke show from the 1960's and 1970's. In today's NASCAR Petty would not be a winner very often. He would probably be on the level of the two guys driving for him tomorrow. Very middle of the pack.

The stats that Mike posted say a lot. Keep in mind he was NASCAR's mega big star in those days. NASCAR paid him to show up and race. Most of the others drivers paid NASCAR so they could show up to race. No wonder he raced so much more than anyone else and posted more wins.

I spent a few weeks working with Smokey Yunick in 1972. Even though we were working on an Indy car my love was stock cars and I ask him as many questions as I could get away with and not piss him off. Smokey is credited with being one of the very best cheaters in NASCAR along with Gary Nelson another guy I knew back then. Smokey may have been one of the best, but the man told me the biggest cheaters were the Pettys. Because they were often allowed to get away with it by NASCAR.

I had a couple of minutes,so I looked for these fun facts.Richard Petty, seven time Champion? Would he have been in the modern era?
1964 2 drivers competed in all 61 races
1967 Petty was the only driver to compete in all 48 races
1971 5
1972 (new shorter schedule) 6 drivers competed in all 31 races
1974 6 drivers competed in all 30 races
1975 7 drivers competed in all 30 races
1979 12 drivers competed in all 31 races
and was the beginning of the end.DW won 7
and lost by 11 points
1983 Petty wins Charlotte with a 381.983 CI engine (358CI rule)
he was allow to keep the win.

What happened to Carl Long, roger'd .Fined $200K for worn out engine that was .17 CI over 358

Tell me again how great Petty is/was! Fact or creative history making?

BTW, Full field ,full time competitors didn't really happen until after 2000, Yes not that long ago.

Finally, someone pulls out the skinny/truth on Richard Petty's over rated legacy...it has always been a crock.

In comparison, Danica has won and raced multiple series starting in "Go Karts", yes, when she was ten or something she would beat the older boys all year round. I would say one Go Kart win when she raced is equivalent to 50 Richard Petty wins easy.
Ha Ha Ha!

Richard mentioned that Danica would win a race if no one else showed up...well...that is exactly what happened when he won races...no one else show up.

great job, mike. I have always said this but didn't know the particulars. Also, the 6 or 7 that ran all year weren't the top competition. I know Pearson and Yarboro seldom ran the full schedule. BTW Earnhardt basically won seven titles because previous years champ was given first pit stall. When Ricky Rudd hit a tire changer NASCAR put in the pit road speed limit which gave big E a huge advantage. He never had to work on qual setup since he would be at the front anyway after a caution or 2….. and Jeff Gordon dominated because he had a super valve spring that noone else had (not even the other Hendrick cars). Things like these over the years make it hard to compare but i would say Jimmy, David P. and Cale were among the best.

Kurt Busch.......or the 78. Really no idea how it will shake out. Look out for the Gibbs cars.

Let's not forget all those Petty pieces and parts buried on their own land where the original shop is located. Just sayin!

I haven't read thru all of the comments but what I've seen on this page speaks volumes. I grew up a Petty fan but I realize now I've been going about it with blinders on. I've known for sometime that the schedule that Petty ran compared to todays NASCAR would make his record next to impossible. I believe deep down Petty is a decent guy ( his treatment of fans proves that ) He took advantage of the situation much like Danica is now........Look Im not Kenyon or WJM or Martinez putting down what I'm thinking in a logical order isn't going to happen suffice to say Richard and Kyle made asinine comments but regardless Richard was great for NASCAR and as for cheating and the light weight schedule that's ancient history............. I'm bummed my childhood hero would say something so fucking ignorant and I really want to see Danica pull this off, because she honestly wants to be a legitimate threat in cup IMO
