STAGE 4 TRACKING

STAGE 4: SAN JUAN > CHILECITO

Connection 211km | Special Stage 657km | Total 868km

COURSE OVERVIEW

The strategy of the motorcyclists will come into play: initially their navigational skills will be seriously tested at the beginning of the morning, and then they will be faced with the problem of worn tyres, as they have already been over-used the day before. As for the drivers of cars, they will have an even more demanding route to tackle in the countryside. The Dakar’s competitors haven’t faced a special stage this long since the historical one from Zouerat to Tichit in 2005! They will have to cross rivers, descend the canyons in a Wild West setting and beware of the other participants: as these terrains are often wide open, it will be entirely possible to overtake fellow competitors.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

How about with out the liaison section? Or I can check it later.

51.48 mph/52.85 kmh

those two can't be that close to each other mph vs kph

I think he meant 82.85 kph

Doh. Yep thanks for the back-up!

Did we run well today ? From what Im reading the Nav was the biggest issue

it is 657km for the whole special. but there's a 156km neutral zone, which is a tarmac road.
They must follow the road's speed limit, they can't really go as fast as they want. They also must be at the end of that zone within a timeframe also so they can't be too slow. I don't know what the road's speed limit is, so the average speed for this stage can't be easily calculated. I think the speed and time they go through the neutralization zone is still counted towards the avg speed as it is still part of the special..

Liaison is the trip from the Bivouac to the start of the Special, and End of the special to the next Bivouac. Liaison is not timed.

I get what you are saying.
