STAGE 3 TRACKING

STAGE 3: SAN RAFAEL > SAN JUAN

Connection 295km | Special Stage 301km | Total 596km

COURSE OVERVIEW

The competitors of the 2014 Dakar will experience their first taste of the mountains by passing through the Pre-Andes. The Aconcagua Volcano stands 6,962m high and will observe the progress of the vehicles, of which a part will rehearse their high mountain driving techniques. The motorcyclists will climb up 4,300 metres during their special stage, on a ridgeline where they will have the impression of towering over the whole of America! The descent will bring them back to the tough reality of the drivers of the Dakar, as they will only have finished the first part of this marathon stage. They will have to ensure the mechanics for their own vehicles at the isolated bivouac which has been set up for them.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

Tog's answer is on page 37

Seeing as planet robby has been one of the best sites to follow dakar 2014, I figured I would chime in. The LS engine has been for a long time now a great motor. However atmospheric pressure changes play havoc on any pressurized liquid. I.E. normally aspirated airplanes dont fly above 10, 000 feet very well. A vapor lock is a very problematic and tough situation to overcome. I had a hand in the build of the Gordini and can say it is a Hell of a race car. After seeing RG at the end of stage3 on tv covered in dust I seen a tired race car driver. Not just tired but frustrated, and covered in dust due to a cabin leakage. Can you imagine fighting to 6th place barely able to breath and sweating your butt off? That car should be sealed even without the rear panels or body whatever you wanna call it. Its a minor problem that can be fixed, but all that dust makes it tough to drive. That being said, RG drove a trophy truck today!....literally. I hope we make it through tomorrow in the top 5 and thank you to everyone here for the updates. That truck is plenty fast enough....

Thanks for the insight !

Yes, thanks Andrew.
