STAGE 1 TRACKING

STAGE 1: ROSARIO > SAN LUIS

Connection 629km | Special Stage 180km | Total 809km

COURSE OVERVIEW

The competitors will wake up early to set off along the road in the region of Cordoba and start the race on some narrow tracks which will require the utmost vigilance. Each one will still be very fresh allowing them to tackle the stony sections or the blind jumps serenely. The competitors’ driving skills will be rewarded at the finish, where they will have already clocked up 800 kilometres. Although the gaps will not be significant at this stage of the race, it is nevertheless important to maintain their position in the part of the standings that they are aiming for!

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

Robby starts day 1 -6th

Why is the 5th taking so long.

Thanks TOG for the site, insight, and all of the other things you do to support The Planet. I enjoy it all year but especially during the Dakar coverage. Let's all enjoy the ride!
From Dakar website

The gates of the City Center in Rosario opened at 8 AM to welcome the riders and drivers on the Dakar for technical and administrative scrutineering leading up to the start scheduled for 5th January.

The heavy showers which at least freshened up the suffocatingly hot atmosphere of the last few days have for the moment cooled the enthusiasm of the competitors, a good number of which seem to be waiting for a break in the weather before turning up. Nonetheless, the most eager participants have already made their appearance at the series of stands they will have to pass through. The youngest competitor registered, Jeremías González Ferioli, had the honour of being the first to present himself before the race officials: “I can't wait to get started, but I'm still relatively calm… for the moment. In my opinion, I'll start getting nervous very soon”. For the kid who is just 18 years old, the day will be a long one, but an even longer challenge will start in 3 days' time.

.

has team mini protested the car yet?
steped on peterhugger has to be having a hissy fit

Actually yes. There was a post on RDZ, showing an interview from the project manager of the MINI program, basically complaining that the new 2wd cars have an unfair advantage this year.

Can you post a link to the story please. Thanks.

Mini team leader complaining about buggies in dakar

It is in German, but using google translate:

X-Raid team boss Sven Quandt is convinced that this time was not the performance of the Minis, but rather the reliability critical to the success, however. In the current issue of Motor Sport magazine Quandt calls for action by the Dakar officials. "The organizer must do something else next year solely run buggies at the top - this can not be the intention," said Quandt. "I welcome a good competition, but if the average pilot suddenly moved into the top 10 and win split times, this can not be normal. This has nothing to do with talent, but simply with the superiority of the vehicle."

Quandt is convinced: Would run according to plan, the Minister for Peterhansel no trick against the fast buggies would have had. "I have studied the time analysis and thereby became clear: The buggies have won at least 20 minutes ahead when they had no technical problems and would undermine them no mistake," said Quandt. "That's a whole lot of time when you consider that Stephane Peterhansel was absolutely faultless throughout the rally."

yes Sven, I am not a team boss but I confirm : in order to win overall, you have to be a very good pilot WITH a very good car within what is allowed by the regulation.

As a conclusion bye bye Minis.

What a whiner. I guess he would rather vote with equality to all, rather than winning through innovation. Strange philosophy.
