STAGE 1 TRACKING

STAGE 1: ROSARIO > SAN LUIS

Connection 629km | Special Stage 180km | Total 809km

COURSE OVERVIEW

The competitors will wake up early to set off along the road in the region of Cordoba and start the race on some narrow tracks which will require the utmost vigilance. Each one will still be very fresh allowing them to tackle the stony sections or the blind jumps serenely. The competitors’ driving skills will be rewarded at the finish, where they will have already clocked up 800 kilometres. Although the gaps will not be significant at this stage of the race, it is nevertheless important to maintain their position in the part of the standings that they are aiming for!

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

Can't believe he did not mention Robby in the bottom of this interview?????
BJ Baldwin: “Coming to the Dakar is the next logical step”

It's a new challenge for us, you know. We've won seven off-road racing championships in the last nine years, in SCORE, in Best of the Desert, in Hydro… we won the world championships this year. We've won two Baja 1000s back-to-back these last two years so coming to the Dakar is the next logical step. It's a new challenge for us. I like the idea that I'm on a different team with a different programme than I was in previous years. In previous years I was with Robby Gordon and I was more of an assistant driver than a competitor. So this is really the first year that I'm going to be a competitive driver on the Dakar rally which is very, very exciting for me. Guerlain is a great driver and I'm really excited to compete against him because I know he's such a good driver and is very talented. He's won stages in the past, so I know that if I can hang with him or do better than him, then I'll be doing very well. As it relates to our strategy, in the beginning I just think we're going to kind of try and beat each other, but if one of us has a problem and is an hour down, whether it's me or him, we're going to help whoever the lead car is to get to the finish and to get the best finish possible. Obviously, I'd like to win stages immediately. In the end, I'd like to win the Dakar rally; that would be great for us, especially seeing as I'm a rookie and everyone says you have to have five or six Dakar rallies under your belt before you win one. So, to match my skill-set against guys like Peterhansel, Nani Roma, Nasser Al-Attiyah, all those guys… if I could do well against those guys I would be very, very happy because I believe that those guys are the best in the world.

I guess he means the guys that have won the overall?? I think I misunderstood, read it fast.

I guess he forgot about driving the Vanguard Hummer where he drove it into a ravine and had to be pulled out by the locals. So much for an assistant driver!

Wow, he could have done a good job with RG. Just drove off a cliff. BJ confidence is high I will give him that, that's all though ...

and he'll have first time in a car Quinn Cody co-doging.Do either of them know how to change a tire or cv joint?

A lot of people are shook up that the RGM crew is working on the HST
let me put it this way with all the races i have been to i have never stood still for the national anthem (there is always last minuet tweaks i could do to go faster or handle better plus i never could stand still that long)
That is what they are doing

Exactly Tim, I don't ever remember sitting around while a car was in the pits before the race. We were always doing something like last minute checks and adjustments up until it rolled out!

Does anyone know when Robby will be going through scrutineering?

Tomorrow

I've never raced a damn thing in my life (except human) and I would be shittin a brick if the pics showed a roped off "show" truck, cleaned and polished team members standing around! I would imagine every free second you're tweaking, checking, tightening the do it again and again! I think I would throw up with anxiety the last day thinking what I might have missed!

Looks like they are ready to go. (photo from Twitter)
