Join in and discuss all the action from Stage 13 of the 2013 Dakar Rally. Robby Gordon finished 2nd in Stage 12 , and is now 16th overall. Gordon will get a great starting spot for stage 13 in an attempt to win his second stage of the rally. The cars are slated to begin the special section of stage 13 at 10:06am/et and Robby Gordon will begin his special section at 10:09am/et. Raceday chat will be available throughout the entire 2013 Dakar Rally.

COURSE OVERVIEW
The schedule has taken the meteorological characteristics of the area into account. The “Camanchaca” will be very dense during the first part of the morning. So it will only be once this stubborn fog has lifted that the first motorcyclists will set off to tackle the last dunes of the rally. The sandy part, where an attack is still feasible, represents a third of the special stage. To discover the end of the stage, the competitors will have to head south, on wide tracks which can nevertheless conceal stones which can shatter dreams. When they reach La Serena where the rally’s last bivouac will be situated, they will be awarded highly prized additional points.

Yeah sounds like some seriously rad news. So will RG be modifying the Hummer(s) to fit FIA regulations or be building a brand new rig?
Plus here is a quote from Chicherit that I think is cool of him to say:

At the end the stage was really, really good. We started 29th this morning and finished 2nd so it's really not too bad… We had so much dust at the beginning, so that's where we lost a lot of time. This morning when we started we didn't expect to finish in the top 5, so to be 2nd tonight just 22 seconds behind Robby is really good, especially because we will have a really good start for tomorrow morning for the last stage. So, with Robby and I, I think it's going to be really good show tomorrow.

In the car category, as Robby Gordon announced following his 2nd place yesterday, the 13 stage was for him. The American kept his word, even if he found a worthy rival in Guerlain Chicherit. Attacking from the start to the finish of the 380 km of the day's special, the two drivers were battling for seconds. Even if the "Bad Boy" in his Hummer triumphed for the second time in 2013, to claim the 9th stage victory of his career on the Dakar, it was only by 22 seconds ahead of the Frenchman's SMG buggy. Behind them, the competition was not able to keep up with the pace. As a result, Giniel de Villiers, 3rd today, finished 8'08" behind the stage winner and 27'' in front of Leonid Novitskiy, whilst Stéphane Peterhansel lost 13'51 to the American!

Stephane Peterhansel"lost" no in safety mode. He wants to win outright and the only way he can do that is by finishing the last stage.

Yes the FIA Buggy regulations are slightly more liberal than the SCORE regulations. You get a 39mm restrictor as against a 37mm one and the Buggy is allowed more handling options than the SCORE regulations.

That got me as well, but I remember that I read the FIA Buggies(there are several grades) handled better than their SCORE equivalents.

as it turns out my thoughts where correct,the Buggly weighs right at the weight of the HUMMER on the scales,with it's FIA roll cage.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that the Hummer is essentially a Buggy with a Hummer body on it. Wouldn't RG have to simply change the tubing on the chassis to a smaller size to be FIA approved?

Yes,Kevin in basic terms,IMO.But to get the same rigidity with 1 1/2 tube,it requires more tubes/gusseting negating any significant weight loss.
Inch and three quarter tubing was the 'industry standard' for Late Model stock cars,they lasted for many years and where 'clip'able'.Than came crates engines and builders starting using 1 1/2 tubing (same as FIA buggy) and now the chassis are better scraped than repaired. I really don't see a need to change the chassis,but that's me. -

Does everyone remember the time that Mark Miller fell way behind in the Rally and fought his way back into the top 15 overall? Oh wait.............only Robby Gordon has done that. Great job today Robby & Kellon, do it again tomorrow!!!!!!!!
