STAGE 6 TRACKING

STAGE 6: ARICA > CALAMA

Connection 331km | Special Stage 454km | Total 785km

COURSE OVERVIEW

The first special stage held in Chile will take competitors back to the Atacama Desert: they will be faced with sand and dunes for two thirds of the distance. But two specific sections of the stage will be timed: the latter will allow them to rediscover fesh fesh, which is unlikely to enthuse them. Overall, the day will be very long, at a stage where the competitors’ bodies will start to suffer from the lack of sleep, particularly for those who have experienced some incidents. At the head of the race, a ranking which is already probable is taking shape: the real candidates for the Top 10 are apparent.

One of the support trucks, the #550 driven by Michel BouCou, has withdrawn. The #544 is still in the running.

17:07 Cars: Sainz close to dropping out?

Carlos Sainz is at a standstill after 181 km of the special stage and is having mechanical problems with his buggy. The Spaniard has signalled that it is an engine problem that neither he nor co-pilot Timo Göttschalk can repair.

Shit happens.

- End of section 1: Al-Attiyah dominant...

With Nani Roma dropping down the field due to being stuck in the dunes and Sainz losing time due to a broken engine, the team-mate of Carlos “El Matador”, Nasser Al-Attiyah (Qatar Red Bull), is out in front in the car special stage with a total time of 2:27'24". He leads Stéphane Peterhansel (Mini) by 6'24", Robby Gordon (Hummer) by 8'18", Leonid Novitskiy (Mini) by 12'53" and Giniel de Villiers (Toyota) by 14'25". However, Guerlain Chicherit, who started in 24th place this morning, has still not finished the first portion and could sneak into the top 5.

What I find interesting is RG has 8 years developing the restricted LS-x power plant he is running and The Buglys come out of the gate with what seems even power with only 6 months development. And when I say intersting I mean they are fucking cheaters.

Does anyone have a link to the specs of the Buggys? I couldn't find much. How much support are they getting from VW?

They aren't VW they are LSx engines.

Go figure, so RG works out the spec's. for the LS-x engine for the Dakar and has an engine builder put it together and then Nasar buys a bunch to the same spec from the same builder.

My mistake. I thought I saw a photo of one with a big VW emblem, but that was a different car.

Any site out there that shows some details? Who built them?

@Mike,the sticker is probably becouse. Carlo is still contracted to VW
