Robby Gordon #315 - Stage 4 Quotes

"We started off second and we got through some really gnarly, silty stuff. We went over a dune and it was just straight down with one right end to it. We idled into it just enough to tip us over the front, honestly, five miles an hour probably, it wasn't a big rollover. Except it put all the weight of the vehicle on the front, broke the windshield and flopped it on its roof and we had to wait for new radiators to get to us. It was a long wait."

"It's been a disappointing rally for us; we expected so much more. The first day I was too conservative and this dune I went over just a little too much, so we can't find a happy medium I guess. The rollover was honestly five miles an hour. It stood on the top for a while and I thought it was going to come backwards, but it just flopped over. It wasn't that dangerous except for the fact that we were on the other side of the dune. It was probably five to seven minutes before Peterhansel got there, so we'd already put some gap on him, but that doesn't do us any good now."

"You know, we just needed to have a good day today. I don't know what's going wrong… Like I said, we've just had a horrible rally so far this year. I don't see a bright side coming, because it's going to be a long ten days. Last year we were so good most of the rally and this year we started off conservatively like I did last year and it's just been unfortunate. We haven't been able to put it all together."

"We've got the team, we've got the cars, but I guess the drivers are making mistakes. It's just unfortunate. I think we're going to have sit back and see if it really makes sense to continue or not."

I watched a video awhile ago about the course this year for a dakar and they warned that it was going to be a real hard ralley for everyone this year. this is a bummer, but hopefully they soldier on.

Time to leave, I don't see point of staying, get home and get your stadium stuff ready maybe u can break even there as Dakar and Nascar cost dollars you will never recover, my point of view.

This show's what kind of CHARACTER you have as a person, Robby has that don't give-up type. Now he has to show that his car is better than Nassers.....I say win some stages.

Sainz is 2hrs:30min from the leader,. pretty sure he will continue racing even if there is no chance on winning this dakar, why should RG quit? he could finish this rally top 10, top 20 already have more than 2 or 3 hours behind,.

So if he leaves, what does he tell his sponsors? Sorry, less media coverage for you, but thank you for your money, or here's your money back? I sucked, so I'm going to quit? Why bother repair the radiators then? How is he going to gain Dakar experience? He has a ton of off-road experience, but Dakar, which is a very different animal, not so much. He's had some pretty major errors almost every year. He needs to work the gremlins out, both in his equipment, and his head. Staying may help that, and both he and his sponsors will still get coverage, and he can still win stages to show he does indeed know what he is doing, and not just some brash American who can't back it up.

Of course it makes sense to continue, both this rally, and Dakars to come. Needs to continue this rally to gain experience, and to show he can win stages. Obviously, he has not felt comfortable this year, and he needs to find a rhythm that he can continue with next year.

Robby, we got your back, keep up the hard work. There's always next year. I'm sure the majority of the PR members will be there to support you and your SST. Gooo RG

Comitment in racing, he has come to far!

Considering that Robby has never wanted to quit the Dakar - even when vehicle or regulations were failing him, I do not see him quitting now. Still has a fast car. Won't win overall - but if he can pick up some stage wins, that will help the marketing aspect for Team Speed / Gordon. And that may be as significant of an objective as an overall win. It will still help build the overall Gordon brand.

Plus - Mini's and Buggly's are not unbeatable. (thought the Mini's have nice deep pocketbooks). Lots of miles left in this race.

I suspected stage 4 would be a tell tale stage for Robby. And it was - both good and bad. But press on as they say.

Off topic - very nice job TOG. Was looking for a site donation option. Is there one? Gary

Thank you very much. Main page, left hand column.

Yes, main page.left side below the scoring pylon.

the DAKAR is a bit@h, that's why it's DAKAR. Problems can strike any team at any time. The race is over after the 14th stage.Anything can happen till then. How about acouple of years ago,Carlos was spanking the field and drove off a cliff and had to withdraw becouse his co-dog broke his collar bone in the crash, or Holowczyc yesterday hurting his back.
I have a saying. I recover from adversity with tenacity. I've noticed Robby pretty good at that.
Get'r fix'd,give'm hell
