STAGE 1 TRACKING

STAGE 1: LIMA > PISCO

Connection 250km | Special Stage 13km | Total 263km

COURSE OVERVIEW

It won’t be long before competitors will be singled out, but for the moment, the mini special stage organised on the outskirts of Pisco will principally be used to divide up the drivers into categories according to their level, who in turn will reassemble during the rally. The initial stage won’t be as stiff as the drink that made the region famous, but the picture postcard landscape is especially appealing. The concentration required over the several timed kilometres will still allow the competitors to admire the scenery. Nevertheless, the light-hearted attitude and relaxed driving style adopted by the competitors during this first day must not mislead them: the Dakar has really begun.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

The #300 Bugly just rolled-off the line.

Peterhansel "I 'd better drive a car for women and win than a car for men and not win

I thought that was what he said but I couldn't understand his accent.

I like the FOX coverage better, getting interviews before the ramp.

I agree with him, and I hope for him a great race.

But I am starting to ask "why?" Why punish yourself racing these things? The videos show driver and navigator enduring quite a beating in anything but - wait for it - you guessed it - the tall suspension Hummer.

The in car videos from 2012 show Peterhansel as a tough Russian cosmonaut of the 60's. Getting the job done, but it's harsh. I commended him for his fortitude and his chrome-moly backbone. On the other hand, with Robby and Johnny, it's a Sunday drive in the Caddy. The look on their faces are serious, but this is probably because Johnny is talking about Jesus.

Thousands of stories are about to unfold. One of my favorites is the clash of the different worlds represented by Peterhansel the corporate cosmonaut (You WILL make our Mini's look good!) and Robby, the caddy cowboy from California.

Stupid iPhones I can't watch anything
