Statement from AJ Allmendinger, Charlotte, NC (July 10, 2012): "I have informed NASCAR that I have requested that the "B" sample be tested, following the steps according to NASCAR's 2012 rule book regarding this situation. I fully respect NASCAR's drug usage policy and the reasons they have it. I am hoping this can get resolved as quickly as possible so that I can get back to driving the #22 Penske Racing Dodge. I am sorry that this has caused such a distraction for my Penske Racing team, our sponsors and fans. Obviously I would never do anything to jeopardize my opportunity here at Penske Racing or to my fellow drivers. I am very conscious about my training and health and would never knowingly take a prohibited drug."(Walldinger Racing)

I just don't think this is going to end well for AJ. His B batch is the second half of the cup he wizzed in and it will probably test the same. I wish they would say what the test hit on? I could care less if he smoked a joint last week between races. I know I sure did and I bet Randy LaJoie did also. But, most of the other stuff they test for is more serious. Some much more serious.

And he should have used a different line than "would never knowingly take a prohibited drug." Isn't that what all those disgraced baseball players said? You know, the guys with arms that looked like tree trunks.

I think he mis-remembers what he did.

It's a shame and I agree that it may not end well for Dinger. If he was suspended, there was just cause. Otherwise NASCAR is going to have a lawsuit agaist them...oh wait, that alreay happend. We all hate NASCAR and what they have done over the years. But they have a process and the process has yet to be disproven. I could be very wrong, but I wanted to belive Floyd Landis and I wanted to belive Lance Armstrong. I even wanted to belive Mayfield. The truth hurts sometimes and I just sit back and wonder; Why would someone take a chance to lose everything? If you take a risk you may have suffer the consequences.

By the way, if NASCAR or Penske conspired to get AJ kicked out of the car, they would have done that to Kurt last year. This was only a 1 year deal anyway. Hopefully AJ can rehabilitate and get reinstated in the years to come and get a Cup ride with a FRM car.

I have to say things don't bode well for Dinger, he hasn't set the world on fire with his results, this fail test just might put him out of NASCAR for good. It seems like everyone who failed a drug test in NASCAR was followed by more misfortune:

Aaron Fike fell off the face of the racing planet
Shane Hmiel was paralyzed in a racing crash
Kevin Grubb shot himself
Mayfield's situation is a complete mess
We all know what happened to Tim Richmond

Tim was Na$crap's first attempt at 'drug testing' and they got it wrong.His family won their law suit against Na$crap after Tim's passing. I was a Tim Richmond fan A) becouse he had a god given talent (like Robby) B) he was not afraid of Bill Jr and was willing to tell him to F-off!

I was a fan of Tim Richmond. He just had a ton of talent behind the wheel of a race car. People say one of the reasons they are Dale Jr fans is he knows how to party. True, but not even in the same league with Tim. Of course in the end the partying sadly killed him.

I had many friends back then involved with NASCAR. My Brother-in-Law was the Bilstein tech guy at all the tracks and all the Cup cars ran their shocks then. Sam praised Tim until the word started getting around that he might have AIDS. Then he had nothing good to say about him. Just like most of Tim's other ex-friends and people in general in the garage area. Tim Richmond should have been treated much better than that.

AJs people have put out a statement saying that it came back for a Stimulant. Most people are thinking that it may be related to the "Fuel in a Bottle" Energy Drink (well Dietary Supplement is what they call it) that AJ endorses. I was looking through the Substance Abuse Policy in the NASCAR Rulebook (Whelen/K&N book for this year but the SAP is the same for all NASCAR series) and I didn't see anything on the ingredient list that had the same name as the Banned Substance list, however that doesn't mean that those ingredients aren't made of things that are banned or contained in things that are banned.

The section about Dietary Supplements in the SAP says the following;
"D. Dietary Supplements – Dietary supplements may contain (either purposefully or through contamination) a prohibited substance under this Policy. Any product sold with a warning advising non-use if the purchaser is subject to a drug testing program should be avoided even though such product may be available without a prescription."

Now I haven't been able to find anything on the Fuel in a Bottle website that says anything about drug tests, however they do say it is a Non-FDA Approved Dietary Supplement.
