I just like the Google translation and wanted to share.

Heir to the KTM 690 Rally with Marc Coma had won the Dakar twice and four times the World Rally Championship Cross Country, the KTM 450 Rally, which debuted at last year's Dakar was called to be the undisputed reference field. Do not disappoint and after a career impeccable crowned MRW pilot's hands as the first winner of the Dakar with engines limited to 450cc.

Will be the second year for the Austrian machine, which in the past twelve months has been polishing his faults of youth to face his second Dakar with greater assurance techniques if possible. During the fifteen days of the Dakar, Marc Coma will roll on the back of the new Queen of the Desert, a motorcycle and more mature than a year faces the challenge of the most extreme test of World of Raids.

It is in his heart where else has worked this season. Its single cylinder 449cc four-stroke reliability has been improved to meet the new demands of the race, which for this edition significantly penalized engine changes. It's own position is another of his peculiarities to note, as it lies from the bottom of the chassis and is secured by two metal arms, which considerably facilitates assembly and disassembly? Something primordial in a race like the Dakar, with followed many days of competition and considerable wear both machines as pilots and mechanics.

Designed specifically to shoot both in the planet's toughest deserts and in the technical tracks and broken by running the Dakar Rally KTM 450 is a bulky but agile bike. The weight reduction compared to their older sister have allowed 690cc win in maneuverability, which combined with the trellis structure of its predecessor chassis give it great stability at high speed, able to absorb the changes in terrain and convey their reactions to motorist.

Another feature essential for the Dakar KTM's jewel is the capacity of its three deposits? Two front and one center? that house approximately 35 liters of fuel. Evenly distributed, large capacity provides the necessary autonomy to Eat to face a test of the characteristics of Dakar.

There is also space for prevention: at the bottom of the bike is a tank containing two liters of drinking water. Placement required by the organization, serves as hydration for the pilot in case of needing to be rescued and that the wait is long. Next to this reserve, there is a section for storing basic tools to deal with minor repairs.

When a few months before starting the Dakar 2011 it was announced that the engine displacement category should be limited to 450cc bikes, started a race among manufacturers to design and to develop a winning bike in the line of departure from Buenos Aires. With the same DNA as the queen of the desert of the past decade and a sponsor like Marc Coma in charge of developing it, the Austrian factory put on the tracks and deserts of Argentina and Chile a bike that was able to take the witness of his predecessor and imposed on all their rivals. For the pilot MRW and KTM 450 Rally, it's time to return to face the challenge of Dakar.

10 gallons of fuel on board. Harkens back to the early days of Dakar. Check out the 'baked potato' on Philippe Vassard's KTM 250 from 1980 (finished 6th).

Oh man, air cooled and twin shocks.  Love it.

A real race bike

The 450 KTM is the weapon of choice, obviously, just like the 690 before and rightfully so. KTM has done a shit ton of development and offers pretty decent support equipment wise to allow even a amateur rider a decent shot at finishing.

However, I'll be following this guy, #150 Luis Belaustegui, riding a KTM 150...the only 2-stroke in the field this year.

I would imagine we will be seeing 300cc 2-strokes in the next couple of years. Lots of the Euro mfg's, heading in that direction.

I saw that, have to watch for him....

Was watching earlier, still learning...http://youtu.be/TlpYUJutTTk

Thanks for that video JR.  A great trip back in time.  Some of those tanks back then were a real testimant to creativity.

in year's past WJM and I have had fun following Ignacio Chivite. Sadly this will be the first DAKAR Ignacio will miss
