When you look back at NASCAR 10 years ago teams & drivers could easily be identified by their sponsor. Bill Elliott - Coors, Davey Allison - Texaco, Jeff Gordon - Dupont, Rusty Wallace - Miller, Dale Earnhardt - GM Goodwrench, etc. But today, you can only find a few teams with one sponsor for a full season, actually only 10. The rest of the Nascar Cup teams are scrambling to fill space and add funds. The TV packages are split, could the Nascar series be next "Sprint - Coors Cup"? What people don't realize that RG was one of the first to have multiple sponsors in a single season........ RG is pretty damn smart business wise.
A report back in Feb stated that most "Official Sponsors of Nascar" agreements are $2 - $10 million each per year (this excludes the Sprint, Nationwide, Camping World, Goodyear & Sunnoco deals, those are long term deals). Here's a list of the sponsors:
http://www.nascar.com/guides/sponsors/
You then add TV packages, license & entry fees and there's enough money for NASCAR to provide assistance.

Most sponsor package deals aren't made public anymore, however because it's government agencies, the following packages are open to the public:

National Guard's sponsorship of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. $20 million per year (16 races primary / associate on the rest)
U.S. Army's sponsorship of Ryan Newman $7.4 million per year (15 races primary / associate on the rest)
U.S. Air Force's sponsorship of AJ Allmendinger $1.6 million per year (3 races primary / associate on the rest)
In 1960, Fred Lorenzon signed the first Cup sponsor at $6,000 per year
In 1980, Junior Johnson had the highest sponsor at $3 million per year
in 2000, Robert Yates Racing landed the highest sponsor UPS at $15 million per year
In 2010, Hendrick Racing had the highest sponsor package (Dale Jr.) toppoing $38 million per year (National Guard & AMP Energy)

Lowe's extended their deal this year (estimated around $30 million per year) plus Lowe's gives every crew member a $480 bonus for each race they win & $480 for every pit stop under a set time plus other incentives including gift cards, tools and more for reaching other goals. Lowe's team members have opportunities to achieve more than double in monies, and bonuses than any other crew members in the Cup garage due to Lowe's incetive based extras for team members. This marked the first time a sponsor offered incentive based goals to team members in their contract.
On the 51, phoenix construction is james finches comany........and james finch is the owner of phoenix racing, the one who fields the 51. The only reason why phoenix construction is on the car is cause they couldn't find a sponsor for those races. So those races are run out of james finches pockets. So in those situations he loses money in those races...Wish Speed Energy would jump on board with Landon Cassill....He would win for Speed Energy
People in the know, like it, good info....TKS
No he wouldn't. Nothing like giving RGM money to other teams to run instead of RGM though...
RG has been quoted as indicating he's not in the business of funding other drivers' careers. I doubt we'll see SPEED sponsor a different driver in NASCAR.
The 51 car is an R&D car for HMS. I think Mr. H has a stake $$$ in this car.
This thread is intriguing... brings to light everything wrong in NASCAR today and reveals it as a microcosm of global turmoil. Every comment here could also be made for every government, corporation or foundation likewise struggling. Success=power=excess=greed=downfall

I was one of those consumers who made purchases based on which NASCAR driver they sponsor. Always Coke, never Pepsi. I still buy only authentic Hot Wheels for the grandsons. And still sip a bit of Jim Beam now and again. No more. A car can have Ray O Vac on the hood one week, Energizer a few races further into the season. Wheaties can sponsor one driver in a particular season and another the following. So all of these split-sponsorship deals and team hopping, while a necessity in today's economic climate, actually dilutes the value even further than the loss of having their logo painted on a hood throughout an entire season.
NASCAR'S TV CONTRACT
The contract took effect in 2007 and runs through the 2014 season.
ABC/ESPN: $270 million/year
FOX: $208 million/year
TNT: $ 82 million/year
SPEED: $40 million/year
Total Revenue: $600 million/year
Plus Nascar has a deal with Sprint, Nationwide, Craftsman, K&N as series sponsors
Exclusive partnerships with Goodyear & Sunnoco
And over 200+ "Official sponsors of Nascar" that pay between $2 - $10 million per year.
License & entry fees.
and more...

Only 25% goes towards the drivers.
Here's the problem. France is raking in all the money, while it's getting increasingly difficult for teams to afford to run in his racing series. Eventually, you're going to see 12-20 cars in these races, like F-1. Then, nobody makes money.
Sad.
Too bad Robby couldnt land the Dollar General. I heard Home depot was but hurt about having to give up 12 races just to allow Dollar General on board.
