(Thoughts on Daytona)
Why Robby should call an audible and race Daytona:
Robby's 18th place finish locked him into the field next week. Daytona is RG's 2nd best track statistically. Robby could easily bring home a Top 20 or even Top 10 finish by just avoiding the wrecks and have a solid day. With the "Push Draft" anything can happen and a win is very possible, but there's always drivers that don't normally run up front that have great finishes. Another solid finish would be huge in points, even if the team S&P'd until Indy. It's likely the 71 and 21 wouldn't be full racing either until Indy. Looking at points it would go alot further to race Daytona...call the audible!

Why Robby shouldn't race Daytona:
Plate racing has changed. Yes, Robby was in the Top 5 the closing laps at Daytona and had a bad fast car, but teams learned alot about the "Push Draft" and made changes when they got to Dega. At Daytona drivers locked onto the car nearest by and hooked up to tango to the front. When they got to Dega they only danced with their teammates and a few chosen drivers. This left alot of drivers without draft partners. Robby was able to draft with another single car team and driver Casey Mears, but the results were ok. What was different & fun at Daytona...became akward & boring at Dega. Mainly becomes of the team alliances. With RCR, Hendrick, Roush, Penske & Gibbs only racing with in-house partners...everyone else was desperately searching for a dance partner like a kid who got dumped the night before prom. Most were willing to dance with anyone who would have them.
Good points Bigzoom. Robby may not have the right drafting partner deal made and without a good partner he would be toast. A reason not to run the full race.
He could draft with the 20 car, and still leave the race early, if you know what I mean. ;-)
yeah Joey pushed Robby its only right that Robby should push Joey to help him OUT!
Once again though, this is all about looking to be in the top 35 for Indy and Watkins Glen.
The trick though is that the 71 or 38 could easily fumble into a top 10 with as much attrition has been occuring at the plate races. S & P'ing at an event where any of these teams have a better shot at finishing in the top 15 then any other week would be giving up the possibility of valuable points.
I think it is simply a $ thing, plate motors cost a shit ton of money, and can RG really afford to tear up a speedway car? I think that his plan is working fine, by this time next year speed energy will be huge and RGM will be heading in thw right direction. Does anyone know if RG is running montreal this year?
yes to montreal
is RGM building their own NW car for Montreal or 'borrowing' one?
Robby builds all his own stuff.
shoulda knowd
challenger?
Totally get the money thing. Thought I would give a WHY and WHY NOT for fun...
