Robby Gordon To Take On The Best of Short Course Racing at Glen Helen
Corona, Calif. (May 11, 2011) – Probably the most versatile racecar driver in the world, Robby Gordon is always racing. Whether it’s stock-car racing, open-wheel, or where he got his start in off-road, Gordon is always behind the wheel of some sort of automobile, ready to take on whoever will line up against him.
And on May 21-22, at the Glen Helen round of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, Robby Gordon will be returning to his roots in short-course off-road racing, taking part in the premier Pro 2 Unlimited class.
“Robby’s from Southern California originally, and having him – a famous off-road and NASCAR racer – out on the track will only bring more fans and more competition to an already popular and competitive series,” says Tony Vanillo of the Lucas Oil Off road Racing Series. “We’re really excited to see how he fares out there against the best of the best in modern short-course racing.”
Gordon himself looks at this as a chance to get back to his roots.
“Short-course racing is a lot of fun,” says Gordon. “They’re sprint races, so they aren’t long, and I don’t want to say there’s a lot of beating and banging because I don’t want to beat up my truck, but there is a lot of tight, wheel-to-wheel racing out there. It’s a good show.”
“Too much business, not enough fun lately,” Gordon says, “But since we weren’t in the All-Star Race [in NASCAR that weekend], and with the television package the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series provides, we figured it was a good opportunity to promote our product, Speed Energy, on our truck.”

Just a thought, if you go on Friday you'll see practice and Qaulifing.Saturday, practice and race,Sunday the same.Pro 2 is the last event Sat. and Sun.If Robby has major mechanical issues on Saturday you may not see him on Sunday ( nature of the beast witha two day format )

We learned this lesson the hard way at Laughlin. Missed Saturday and didn't realize RG had blown up until we arrived at the track Sunday.. All we got were pictures of the hauler leaving the track. I guess it's a risk you take with Off Road racing

With the way things are these days being at risk of being bumped for Sunday action on Saturday has to figure in folks and such thoughts on entering if long travel is involved. Even some bowling tourneys changed the format to include some second day action in hopes of having folks not blow them off if a bad Saturday means no Sunday. However a shakedown run don't do anything at half speed and with the way luck has gone for Rob thus far in a truck .....well you can't help but hope it ends. I'll head to the back yard and mark a 4 leafer.

I thought I might throw out some tips for any folks going to Glen Helen for the first time, or haven't been in awhile. I live just down the street, and have been going there since I was watching Robby in Super 1600 buggies. Here's a few things I always do;
Show up early. Traffic is always a problem with only one lane in and out, and I don't like to park too far away from beer that I bought for less than $7.50 a cup.

Check the weather but be prepared for everything, you can have it all at the same time in the mouth of the Cajon Pass..

Take your ear buds with something to pick up FM, Glen Helen broadcast is FM 93.5 on most of the bigger races, but that can change with the promoter.
Hang out for awhile afterwards. The LEO's like to use large events there for training on DUI checkpoints, and the drunks will hold up the traffic.

I saw RG's hauler today on the 15 headed towards the 215 and Glenn Helen. I'm hoping to go Sunday with my daughter. Prices are a little steep so we'll see.

Gotta go Saturday in case he doesn't run for some reason Sunday. Wear your Speed Colors. Let's hope he run's Sunday also and takes it all. Either way it will be exciting.
