I think it will take 2 or 3 wins plus the top 20 to make the chase. I am encouraged by how the car went at Phoenix, but Robby did well there last year, the real test is next week at LV on the first 1.5. I do think if he had not got in the big one he would have easily beat Keselowski and finished 12th to 15th or so. Penske power is definitely near the top of the heap this year so far. I was also happy that Robby and the team did not lose interest after the wreck and kept plugging away, that does not seem like the actions of a part time operation.

With the new Easy Point System, a driver can make huge gains with a good finish or drop alot with a poor finish.

That's it zoom your right and I think we will see the points standings be really unsettled over the first quarter of the season.
Robby has lost out on a lot of points already like we all know. He's had tough luck already this season being caught up in other peoples trouble but that can't continue for ever and I'm sure a deserved good finish is just around the corner.

Bard Keslowski posted on Twitter this morning: "Lots of slow cars with crash damage on the track at the end of the race. Think this will be continuing trend with new points system. strange."

Several drivers are seeing alot more aggressive racing with every position being a way to increase your points standing. A driver can jump from 20th in points to the lead in one race. As the season goes on those jumps will be alot smaller to make, but right now those jumps are huge every race. With 3 races to to settle the Top 35 in points, expect to see more aggressive driving continued.

You cannot leave the 3 points on the table at all... yesterday was a perfect example. The race should be ran in two segments. First segment lead a lap.... Second segment, get to the end. There should be zero confusion on this. even if you have to stay out the second caution lap.

If RGM is still only planning a partial schedule, then points and where RGM is at does not matter. RGM could win 2 races and they still will not be eligible for the Chase as they will never be a top 20 in points team. New points or old points system, missing 1 or two races will not keep you in the top 20 in points little lone keeping the team in top 35 status.

If they are only running the first portion of the season in hopes for more funding it will help bigtime.

I think with the additional races being added to Robby's schedule shows "Sell more SPEED, race more races." I don't think the team would have worked as hard as they did to get back on the track if there was no concern about points. In my opinion you worry about points just like you're racing a full season until the points becomes a non-issue. You never know what the future holds and what opportunities might come about. Major audibles could be called down the road if the right situaitions come. I like the way things are starting to look...
