Has anybody seen the November issue of Nascar Illustrated?  Kris Johnson did an Up-Front interview with Robby about what's happening in his career and his future plans. Robby said that he isn't closing and driving for someone else because he's invested so many years into what they have and he's in too deep. He has commitments to his people who have shown loyalty to him. He also said that he's mellowed with age but he still has that same passion when he puts the helmet on. He says."I'm still a mad man."

He says he has no regrets and if you look at his life, as wild and crazy as he is, there's no real drama behind the scenes. He says he has a kid (son, Max) and he doesn't regret that in any way, shape or form. He's never been in jail, never had DUI's. He says he's wild, but it's a controlled wild.

When asked if he was satisfied with being where he is, he says "I still want more, I want to win, I want to be competitive. I don't like being 35th in the points. Can I win a championship? I don't care to win a championship." He goes on to explain that if he had the proper budget and 100% effort behind it, he could win one. but he'd rather play with his Monster truck or go to Baja or Dakar. He

said "Why do I have to spend every weekend in Martinsville or Pocono when I can be in Argentina or Baja?"

When asked if his legacy was going to be along the lines of Sinatra's "I did it my way", he said:

"I don't even care about doing it my way. I just like to have fun and do what I do. We can't take this too serious. We race cars for a living. Let's get real. At the end of the day, we are an entertainment business. I realized that at a very young age and today we're still in the entertainment business, so I'm happy with the way it is right now."

It's a tough sport on all levels.
He answered the questions, but no hint on 2011. He does not want to be 35th in points, but just seems to not have the equipment or luck to finish better. I don't understand why Robby cannot get into the top 10 or 20 every week. Maybe he should re-hire Gene? I was glad he didn't wreck the car last week in that spin, but he just stayed 33rd never moving up or passing. I know he cannot be content just riding around in the back of the pack. Joan
Wow he amitted to having a son ( Max ) to the Public wouldn't regret anything either he is the cutest thing:) I can't wait to have little ones myself! i wil have to buy the mag eventally. and that is a good picture of him :) good for Robby makes me love him more as a fan!
This a major reason why I changed my driver after lots of years. "Livin the Dream"
That's exactly who RG is. Just another guy, blessed with the opportunity to live the dream.
"Just another guy" with a God given ability not many have.
My favorite quote from the article:
"I still drive the car like I don't have a dime invested in it".
Im a fan and always will be... but its over as far as nascar is concerned. Im sure we will see him runnig the road races.
The offical racer of racing!!!! RG is the MAN!!!!
This is EXACTLY why I became a devoted RG fan after Jimmy Spencer retired. Both guys pushed it to the limit in underfunded equipment, both really took time for their fans, both have a no prisoners mentality, both tried running their own shows, but Jimmy never ventured into the Cup series on his own even after success in the BGN Series (Spencer Motor Ventures), and Jimmy was NEVER the road racer that Robby is (obviously, LOL!). I have always admired Robby's versatitlity, but Mr. Excitement's retirement forced me to research Robby more. The more I read, the more I became entrenched. If Robby leaves, don't know who I'd cheer for, probably just quit watching. "Drive 'er like you stole 'er" Rob!
Very Cool - thanks for posting.

The comment that stands out for me is "boring". I couldn't agree more. I went to Sonoma last year (RV'd it) and was bored out of my mind.

I grew up going to the Long Beach grand prix which had a car show, BMX stunt bikes, several races, celebrity stuff...and on and on.

The nascar races are some of the most boring around. With DVRs and hundreds of channels...people are starting to watch lots of other series....no wonder the TV ratings are down.
Anybody here ever heard of him having a son Max??
