NASCAR To Abandon Racing Portion Of Business, Concentrate On Ads

NEW YORK - In a move designed to bring their business closer to its core
values, top NASCAR officials announced Monday that from now on, rather
than racing to determine a winner, advertising-bedecked cars would
slowly circle the track in a noncompetitive marketing parade set to
begin with next year's Daytona 500. "Declining revenue made us take a
closer look at the sport, and we found that many fans couldn't even see
the logos and graphics on cars when all that high-speed racing was
taking place," NASCAR president Mike Helton said. "Now that we've
eliminated the competitive aspect, we're also free to give our fans what
they've been asking for: new advertising on the track, flashier ads
applied during pit stops, and a safer, more relaxing marketing
environment overall." Fans objecting to the move were encouraged to take
advantage of NASCAR's wide array of newly available advertising space
to voice their concerns.

Good move.  This could really help underfunded teams find sponsors - WJM

I love the smell of Napalm in the morning. Can someone blow up this series already, so the precious sponsorship dollars can put into any form of racing that is more exciting. I went and saw the 1st ever Rally Cross in the US at the NJ Motor sports park. That was 10 times more exciting that Nazicar. Robby should be putting his efforts into these grass roots racing where he can have a great impact and create a legacy and not waste his time going in circles. I am at a point where trator pull in more exciting to me than Nascrap. Look at the F1 seasont this year, still lack of over taking, but the series is exciting to watch and on knife edge. I am so over the WWF version of autoracing.

I can't see this happening with the way NASCAR likes to control the show.

Finally! Someone with the guts to say it as it really is.... While it was written tongue-in-cheek, it is dangerously close to the truth. Gave me a good chuckle until the irony hit.

"Looks like Dale Jr. is going a lap down.... oh, no, hot dog wrapper on the track! Those can be pretty dangerous, DW!"

Nascar introduces a Sunday Morning stroll at the track: For a one time payment of $99.99 you will have the opportunity to take a Sunday stroll with your favorite driver before the race. "I will be there, i wont personally be walking, I will be on my motor scooter though." said Mike Helton. All money raised will go where its truly needed, the prize purse for that weekends race. "We hope this will help compensate for the declining attendance of races." Said Helton. The new Sunday stroll at the track will start this weekend at Kansas. Drivers participating this weekends stroll are Nascar Veterans Joe Nemechek, Mike Bliss, and Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate Landon Cassill.
