The Sharks signed Niemi to a one year contract , wonder if they want to see if he's the real deal , or if last season was a fluke ? I hope he plays for the Sharks like he did the Hawks , the team needs a consistent goalie who can keep them in games when the team isn't scoring many goals, but the other teams are . The Sharks got blown out in too many games last season , IMO , and need to try and change that . The Hawks never seem to have too much of a problem scoring goals , wonder if they will find themselves missing some of those players they got rid of ?

I bet it's because of the Kovalchuk contract that the NHL didn't like . I guess only time will tell what the outcome of this will be . If it should be that he would become a free agent , wouldn't you think Chicago would get first chance at signing him again , or do you suppose that wouldn't be allowed ?

That's part of the reason why I feel this season will be interesting . I figure the Sharks want to get to the final round this season , and go for the Stanley Cup , and the Hawks will be defending their championship without some of the key players that helped them win it . IMO , nothing is a given this season , anything can happen , and I can't wait for the season to start !

I'd be happy with them being either # 1 or # 2 , sure beats being dead last . How do you think the Hawks will do this season with all of the player changes ?

He would be a great addition to the team since they aren't resigning Nabokov and need a top notch goalie to replace him . I have a feeling this hockey season is going to be an exciting and interesting one .

I don't understand that , other than Turco has years of experience . You would think they would want Niemi for now and the future . Johnson for Sadler , now there's a lop sided trade, but it is a great analogy .

I figured he would end up in Europe first. Still wondering what happened as he appeared to be on his way up a couple of years ago. Such a shame.

That was one of the oddest moments in hockey that I can remember ever seeing .

Sounds like some busy times coming up. I should be in PA for the weekend and then some Planeteers and I are going to the Brickyard the following weekend. Got some free tickets so we have to use them.
