1) No, it wasn't OK for Steven to pull off his helmet... If somebody hasn't already had a talk with him, they will this weekend. That was potentially a dangerous move.

2) Robby pulled off into an area designated for that purpose. He was fine. You see drivers do that all the time in other racing series.
but walking out of the car on a "live" track, regardless of the area it is in, is dangerous...especially with the Nationwide hacks that can lose control of a car in a blink of an eye...lol.

Remember, Robby doesn't always have the greatest luck!!!

The only thing weird about that it looked like film of an old "Bigfoot" sighting........
OMG that's funny! It did and I bet the track officials thought it looked like Bigfoot coming their way after running out of gas on the last lap!
The other thing to remember in the pit-or-not pit debate is that often times teams will do exactly the opposite of the leader. If Robby pits, its very possible Jacques stays out (and probably goes on to win the race). There's no guarantee Robby comes out fifth ahead of JV...There's also no telling how hard Robby was driving when Ambrose and Edwards were pulling away (knowing he'd have to save fuel). The fact that JV got within a couple seconds of him and then Robby stabilized the gap says a lot about how fast the car could have been if run wide open.
After the qualifying issues of Saturday, the team had a strategy that was the best they possibly could have to win the race. You have to pit before everybody else does on their first stops to make up track position, then hope it doesn't bite you in the butt. If there'd been a few more cautions in that second segment I imagine they would have been able to stretch the mileage to when everybody else stopped with 29 or 30 to go. Likewise a couple of cautions before the one with 10 to go would have extended the window to include the one GWC.
The S's at Riverside were littered with racecar from beginning to end with no drivers in them.
I thought the calls were right until the GWC. At that point everyone new even Robby new he did not have enough gas. I thought it was pointless to go for the win then. Overall good race just bad luck at the end.
I don't understand people that assume RG would have won if he had pitted. He wouldn't have. He would have had a better finish, but there is really no reason to assume he would have won.

They took a chance staying out. It didn't work. Oh well.

They would have been taking a chance by pitting, and it probably wouldn't have worked.

I don't see any reason to assume he would have passed all the cars on the lead lap, including some very strong cars up front that were driven by world class road racers.

After having a painfully mediocre performance in practice and a piss poor qualifying, capped off with issues that had them starting at the back of the field it really was great that there able to put themselves in position to win it like they did. But things beyond their control didn't fall their way. Oh well.
leading to start a G/W/C , pitting was NEVER an option. The guy who actually had the wheel in his hand had no regrets about staying out.20 seconds from taking the white flag. And after being involved in the early Stenhouse incident,for Robby to be leading with less than 10 to go was amazing in itself.
Are we still going to be discussing this up until Dakar? They did the only thing they could, end of story. Things may have been different if Stenhouse could see over the steering wheel and look ahead while roadracing
