This type of tradgedy was just waiting to happen. I've been going to desert races for 30 years and I'm always amazed at how stupid people are standing so close to the trucks flying by. it will happen again, and one of these days it will be at Zoo road in Mexico, and it will be even worse.
Let us hope it never does get worse, but people want to get as close as they can, be a part of what is happening... Most of us have times when we are "stupid".
My heart goes out to those that have lost loved ones and especially the driver. I can't imagine what he is going through.
I know I've been "Stupid" along with the rest, and it took a near tragedy to wake me up as well. I love Off road racing and have even raced in a few in Mexico, but when my kids were almost run over by a class 4 truck, I decided to watch from a distance, and I still enjoy going. My heart goes out to the family's of those who have been affected by this tragedy and also the driver, who is feeling the full affect of an incredible "Accident".
If u have ever been to the Baja 1000 the morons that try to touch the trucks as they jump over them
So your standing there watching the race. . After lots of other trucks have gone by. This truck wipes out. People are in the way of the accident. People get hurt. Not knowing they died yet. Why do they throw rocks at the drivers ? Why not dive in and help ? Sorry for the deaths of our off road racing family.
JD
No rocks were thrown at the driver. Yes those there on site jumped in right away.
I am sure you are aware of this since you claim your of the off-road family.
I live in cali It's off the 15 in the Barstow area
I am asking you to please consider donating to FAST-AID. FAST AID is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial, educational and personal assistance to injured racers, support teams and their families as well as ensures the necessary support is in place to complete a thorough recovery and rehabilitation from motor sports racing incidents.

FAST-AID has set up a special fund where 100% of the donation go to this tragic accident. I know myself, Fly and others have already donated and at last count today they have received over $20,000 and this is just the tip of what is needed to help the victims and their family's. Many that were killed left children behind.

To donate or for more info please go to http://www.fast-aid.org/california-200.html

As many have known I have worked with the MDR series and I ask that you not only pray for the victims and their family's but for the owners of MDR as they are in utter shock that this happened.

This was truly an accident and it was nobody's fault. If anyone here has questions regarding off-road racing please feel free to PM me. I would rather educate someone then to have them learn from the news media as they mostly dont understand our sport. This is not NASCAR and you cant have walls around a desert race course.

God Bless all!
Good Night
I wouldn't be surprised if one of the national news or sports organizations were to call on Robby to get his opinion on off-road racing and any safety issues that he feels would need to be improved. That's if they do their homework.
+1. Rob has ALOT of media attention. He IS the voice of the Off-Road community. Perhaps he could run a Fast-Aid sticker on his car this week, or get the media's attention in someway ?
i am going to place a fast-aid banner on the main page here.
actually, in the Las Vegas area and alot of SoCal, BJ Baldwin is the voice and even Jesse James. Both have been on TV trying to explain the the stupid media types what happened and trying to raise funds. I am amazed at how little has been raised! I know it's tough times, but if everyone just gave a little, it would be alot.
