17 Years ago today Nascar lost one if it's rising stars Davey Allison. Davey was the son of Nascar Legend Bobby Allison. Davey was driving for Robert Yates Racing in the famous #28, sponsored by Texaco-Havoline.

Allison died in a freak helicopter accident at Talladega Superspeedway, while landing his helicopter to watch freind Neil Bonnett make a comeback to racing. As Davey was landing his helicopter malfunctioned and shot up in the air, then crashing hard into the ground. Davey died at Carraway Hospital shortly after shocking the racing world.

Davey will always be missed.

He hit some fencing or a guy-wire attached to it. Yes it was "pilot error". RIP Davey. You were way too young. Prayers to Bobby and family.

My fondest memory, seeing him and Dale Jarrett door to door across the finish line at MIS for DJs 1st Cup win. The Havoline T-bird and the Citgo T-bird. It was epic.
We miss you Davey. Gone but NEVER forgotten. RIP
The Sunday before Davey passed he raced at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe,Washington. Our weekly show was moved to Friday night. The Speedway had a meet and greet for fans on Friday. Davey was there, he had a very chrismatic grin. And I can say I've shaken his hand, welcomed him to the Northwest and wished him a good race.
Godspeed, Davey
What WOULD have been, RIP Davey
As someone who fell in love as a child with Bobby Allison as my favorite driver, my heart aches for him and Judy every year at this time and on Aug. 13th (anniversary of Clifford's death). My favorite memory of Bobby and Davey would be the 1-2 finish at Daytona in '88. Godspeed, Davey.
