I agree 100% Richie!
Put yourself in Robby's shoes for a second. You have been behind the curve at intermediate tracks and you put yourself even more behing by trying something new with a new chassis and things went way wrong. Couple that with trashing the car near the end of an incredibly frustrating weekend. Do you think you will be nice and calm and say, "we have to go back to the shop and work on our next car"? There was a ton of frustration and Robby just let it out. He was in front of Rowdy, not Speed or TNT. He was angry at the car, HIS team and the fact that he didn't avoid hitting the 21. These intermediate "cookie-cutter" tracks are NASCAR's bread and butter when it comes to attracting sponsors. This kind of performance hurts your efforts to attract some $$.

As for episode #7, what an emotional rollercoaster. I also get the impression that the title could be changed soon to "The Gene Show featuring Robby Gordon Motorsports".
Excellent, excellent series so far and I continue to look forward to more.

Throughout the episode Rowdy wove in the thread of Robby's intensity and commitment - whether it was the interview with him at the beginning or the "interview" with his mom towards the end where Rowdy asked what he was like when Robby was 5 and she said "intense".

Is it any wonder then that Robby gets pissed off and angry when his car and team are not performing as they should be and does not hesitate to come out and say it - even if - in that moment of passion and intensity he crunches a few toes.

I'm sure I cannot speak for everyone in the forum but I've been there, I've let the winds of rage roll when frustration has reached such a point that it boils over and you just let fly. It will make the team better and stronger in the end because they know where they stand with their driver, their owner, and the team and nothing is left hidden - unless of course it is the image of Gene all lathered up and soapy talking to a panicked hotel owner which of course does need to be left hidden in a deep dark corner of the Earth.

Will Speed Factory episodes like this attract some sponsor who is more comfortable with the jello-molds in jumpsuits that occupy many of the seats in NASCAR...nope...but will it attract a sponsor, fans, and support from those who appreciate someone with that much passion, ...yep.

Gas on Robby, gas on!
You hit the nail on the head.... its just raw emotion, its called hunger/passion etc... RG is in an elite group of "badasses" that want to win at all cost and sometimes let their emotion get the best of them (Stewart,Rowdy Busch,JPM).... these guys don't bite their tongue as much as some guys in the sport, but for that I commend them.
Are there any talks with Network TV to air Speedfactory? What kind of numbers are we talking with regards to views or hits so far?
Raw emotion. It's what separates RG from the cookie cutter drivers and why we're here instead of chatting on jimmiejohnson.com. NASCAR tried their best to remove emotion from the sport to appease the politically correct set. Those that follow the cookie cutter drivers. Look what happened to the sport. Been a while since anyone was sent to anger management classes.

As a fan, I love the episodes. But as a business person, I still can't share speedfactory with the readers of my weekly consumer newsletter. I've been wanting to highlight the show in a future column but it will not appeal to a mass audience. And that's what I have to consider. Not what I like, but what is acceptable to the aforementioned politically correct set. That's also what network TV will look at when deciding what shows to pursue.

Sponsors come in all shapes, sizes and business models. There are some that will not like this. But assuredly there are others who will see the depth of emotion, determination and focus and willing to get behind someone like Robby. Now... if I can only shake that image of Gene answering the hotel door...
Just as easily as they can crack jokes and throw the random F Bomb, they can film 15 minutes of Robby at a corporate function signing autographs and shaking the hands of the suits. The camera can show any side, at any time. However, the show would LOSE viewers if it was nothing but Robby signing autographs at a personal appearance. The creator of the show has a vision, and he is sticking to it.
I agree 100%. If he has a vision, he should stick to his guns. I'm a big race fan and I watch a lot of race shows. I get tired of the same old thing. That last episode of speedfactory was so funny. Rowdy is a funny dude. There is no other show like it out there. Fans get to see the "other side" of racing. It's awesome.
I'm with 'ya. I wasn't suggesting he should change his vision. Once you do, you're doomed to fail. I was merely trying to say that for every potential sponsor that finds it offensive there will be another who appreciates it. And there are certain things that appeal to a target audience, not the public at large with their many flavors. I love the episodes, the content is informative, hilarious and emotional all at the same time. But this doesn't dismiss the fact that you just can't shake some images, no matter how funny they may be.
you make good points, V. However I think just as a program like John & Kate Plus 8 is a success, so too can be Speed Factory. I couldn't give a rats ass about Kate or her kids, but the show was interesting because of the situation and the raw human emotion. Same with SF...you might not care at all about racing, but you get sucked in to the program because you see real people doing remarkable things and you see and feel their emotion.

I kind of see this a good programming for Spike TV, or even MTV.
Mike, I hear you talking, but alliances don't work. You need only look at what happened with GEM and BAM. Those two deals ended the way alliances always end; with one party's feelings hurt and someone owing someone money.

Secondly, why would Gibbs lease anything to anyone? So the competition can see their stuff and catch up for an extra half million or whatever? Gibbs doesn't need anything from anyone. They have money coming out of their ears. That would be like a hungry guy going to Donald Trump at Burger King and saying 'I'll give you $25 for that cheeseburger.' Trump doesn't need his $25; he would rather have his sandwich because he is hungry. Gibbs wants to WIN. He doesn't need RG's money.

This is just the way it is going to be: RGM is either going to stay independent on RG's own terms -- win or lose -- or RG will sell to a larger team and stay on to drive and co-own, like almost happened with GEM.

I don't see any other outcome here.
People are lost( i'll rephrase it ) if they think you can walk into Gibbs racing & buy a brand new chassis that was going to be the next one Kyle Busch was going to use. They will laugh you out of the building. RG builds his own stuff because thats what he wants to do. Learn it. Know it. Live it. ( Fast Times reference )

If you want a gibbs chassis, start rooting for the #18,#11 or #20...the bandwagon is open.
