Bobby Labonte to Drive for Robby Gordon Motorsports at Loudon

Former Champ to Pilot No. 7 Toyota at NHMS

Charlotte, NC (June 23, 2010) – Robby Gordon Motorsports will put 2000 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Bobby Labonte behind the wheel of the No. 7 Toyota at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 this weekend in a current one-race deal.

“When we found out that Bobby was available to drive for us, we jumped at it,” said team owner Robby Gordon. “To have a past champion driving your car is a good opportunity. I think we can learn from him this weekend and it will help our program moving forward.”

Robby Gordon Motorsports finished second in last weekend’s race at the Infineon Raceway.

“I can’t thank Robby and his folks enough for this opportunity,” said Labonte. “We’re going to New Hampshire with the goal of having another solid run for his team. They had a great finish at Sonoma and have some momentum right now. I’m just thankful for the opportunity and hope to get another solid finish for his team.”

Labonte will be making his first start for Robby Gordon Motorsports and plans on running the full race this Sunday.

Every since this story broke yesterday it gained alot of momentum...i think it's easy to expect "more to come" such as sponsor details... I can't wait for the next Speedfactory.TV with clips of Labonte at New Hampshire while Robby is in Argentina...this is where Speedfactory will gain alot more attention and fans.

One report has Labonte working on deal with RCR for 2011, but I agree RBR seems to make alot of sense for both Labonte & RBR...getting in RGM's car this weekend will definitely get him familiar with the Toyota.

Robby is really making alot of splash in the news lately...and they always say "any publicity is good publicity"...much better than nothing at all.

Glad the team isn't a S&P too, I wondered how that would effect the team coming off such a high at Sonoma...to a S&P, now they can go in race trim!

-Not really, different chassis and WAY different engines. I'm not to keen on Triad. If Robby was getting engines from Gibbs, MWR, etc the past two seasons would have been phenomenal, but I understand the prices involved.
Triad's are no problemo, it's just finding the right weight distribution in the cars during the race.....I remember someone saying how Gene said that he knew what was wrong with the cars after only putting so many gallons at time in the car... It's all about the weight.......What they need is a good adjustable seat that moves to the rear when fuel burns off....Not sure how Nascrap would like that though.....
There shouldnt be a single person on this site with an issue regarding Triads engines after this weekend. They got great gas mileage, and clearly had plenty of power to hang with the big boys. Couple that with the deal Mike Held gives RGM, and you people need to shut up.
Calm down big chief Triad flag bearer, just stating that the engines at Gibbs, Red Bull, and TRD(Robby pushing the pedals on a TRD motor would be way better than they have now-just saying) are far superior, BUT I UNDERSTAND why he uses them. Sure, the engine had fuel mileage, but "hang" with the big boys....that was just Robby's pure dominant driving skill on the road course, otherwise it would've been Jimmie and Marcos following Robby. Where's the "hang" power at Martinsville, Charlotte, Darlington, etc? If Robby pulls off a win with a Triad on one of these "smaller" tracks, I will be the first to apologize to you and change my personal feelings on that brand of powerplant assembly.
