It sounds like Robby may not be running the full cup schedule, and that may disappoint alot of Robby's hardcore nascar fans. But what he plans on doing during his "off-weeks" has me absolutely excited. Robby says he is looking hard at running the Indy 500!! That alone would be awesome. But add in running the X-games rally race, building and (hopefully) running a monster truck, and running the Baja 500 & 1000. That is unbelievable. I am definitely looking forward to what 2010 will bring us as Robby Gordon fans, and I think it was worth the wait. What do you think??

yep they finally nailed the dude.
Well said, Fly. It's going to be an eventful and fun year to be a Robby Gordon fan.
I dont even know how often Robby himself will be at any monster truck event. This seems more like Monster wants a true "Monster" Truck and so Robby is making it happen. It seems like its more for a marketing/promotional thing than to actually be serious about going into these events.

Afterall if, if the sponsor wants something, you generally make it happen if humanely possible. I'm sure Monster threw some extra bones at Robby to make this happen anyway.
we have a winner !
I can tell you I wouldn't be. I'm embarassed to ask for it at a cup event where we know he'll finish in the top 20 if we're lucky.
Okay... your right. It's all nonsense.
No FLY, I agree with you on this one, Rick mears, Thompson, Jones, Foyt this are the guys RG looked up to when he was growing up and began racing with his family. They did it their way and so does he. Sounds like a song or something.LOL
The Jackson 5 came to several pudunk county fairs too, and they've damn near declared Michael Jackson a saint.

Mickey Thompson was an icon in racing, and he knew how to promote both himself and all of his racing endeavours. A great template for Robby to follow. (Except for the getting murdered bit...)
There are many things RG has done you may not agree with, but actually Mickey Thomson has been a goal of RG's for years. Just FYI, contrary to the name, occasionally I believe the fly is actually in conversation with RG and not just on the wall listening.

I can tell you on more than one occasion he has brought up in random conversations how much he believes in what Mickey had done, and that he believes he could possibly make it a winner again.

Part of what makes it interesting following this man is the sheer variety of goals and business interests he has. Hell, Penske, is one of the few in the garage with as many varied interests as RG. You have to respect them that they are actively involved in the day to day management of their businesses. As opposed to some of the others who might have their name on a dealership, but need a map to make it to the annual appearance.

Besides, you have to be careful calling the fly nuts, sometimes it gets him all abuzzin, and then watch out, he may just turn pink with rage and let it rip. jk
Wait, so now it's the next Mickey Thompson? Because five years ago it was the next Roger Penske......

No Dakar? Seems like non-sense. No Cup ownership? So what, it was a failure anyway. No SCORE? Bullshit, he raced SCORE while with RCR. No CORR? So what, how many CORR races has he actually run.

And a new 10-20 thousand fans thanks to running in the IRL? Outside of the 500 the IRL has trouble getting that many people to attend a single race.
Don't forget the new Rally fans...

Business model?

Travis Pastrana
Seems to me in todays economy and life in general RG is having to do what he has to do to get by just as most of us do. While I admitt I am not a monster truck fan (nor will I ever become one) if it pays some bills so be it. The other forays sound great to me and any expedtion into rally cars has to help the Dakar effort. It has been clear to me for sometime that NASCAR is not the most interesting race format out there, its just the most promoted and successful.
