What do you all think about Robby's 2010 plans?

It sounds like Robby may not be running the full cup schedule, and that may disappoint alot of Robby's hardcore nascar fans. But what he plans on doing during his "off-weeks" has me absolutely excited. Robby says he is looking hard at running the Indy 500!! That alone would be awesome. But add in running the X-games rally race, building and (hopefully) running a monster truck, and running the Baja 500 & 1000. That is unbelievable. I am definitely looking forward to what 2010 will bring us as Robby Gordon fans, and I think it was worth the wait. What do you think??

Matty, I'm a Nascar fan too, but I disagree with you. Robby is one of the best at taking pieces and putting things together. Robby has the chance this year to do what very few can ever do. He can repeat as the Score Champion, be a Indy 500 winner, and win a Cup race...in one year! Imagine what sponsors would line up next year for him. Don't think instead of start & park, Robby is gonna sit & watch, he will be racing something somewhere, and alot of Cup races.

We all know the sour ending at Sonoma last year, but I expect this year will be really different. Not that you haven't gotten Robby's best in the past, but I expect Robby to be a contender with a different motivation..

Just have a feeling this won't be the year Robby slowly vanished from Nascar, but the year he got results that will benefit him for years to come.

The biggest question I want to see answered is..."What if he wins the Daytona 500?" That would change alot of things at RGM...

Before you go crowning RG the Indy 500 winner, it's only a thought at the moment,so until RG announces any INDY plans, I wouldnt sell the farm just yet on him going.At least he is giving it consideration.

Wow - as good as RG is - that's an incredible long shot. No one can just jump in those cars after years of driving stock cars and dirt and immediately go right to the edge - which is what an Indy win would take.

I'd love to see it, but let's be a little realistic.

The way I see it, Robby could have stayed with RCR and operated as a puppet in the NASCAR world. However, that is not the way Robby wants to operate and he would much rather be the boss and make the decisions. Unless he truely wants to run part time in NASCAR, I don't see him ever going back to one of the predominant teams. He will do it his way and do what he can. Besides, unless you are 18 to 20 years old or a former champion with good years to go, you are probably not going to land one of those rides anyway.

Like TOG said, we have confirmed plans for Daytona, Cali and Vegas. A week ago, we didn't even know that much. Let's just sit back and see what happens next.

That I disagree with...the "youth movement" is no longer the fad it was a few years ago.

Guys like Logano and Fuglyewski who do have the talent and derserve it will always get their shot, but teams are realizing that a seasoned veteran is still an option, and a good one if you want a car in the top 35 and not a lot of sheet metal tore up.

The days of putting a Michael McDowell or whoever is the next best young thing in a car and seeing what happens are over..in this economy

I respect what Robbys plan is for this year. I know what hassle chasing down sponsorship must be.
I was just looking at photos from last year. We got to see a lot of good looking cars.
Freightliner
Sylvania
Richmond Water Heaters
Polaris
and a bunch of others.
I think that's what I'm going to miss the most this season is getting to see new paint schemes and those good looking cars that RGM puts out.

Wow..I have been away for a while and have been trying to catch up today. As many others have stated, I have mixed feelings about Robby going part-time in Nascar. I was a Nascar fan before I knew about Robby and, over the years, have become a Robby fan. But I will admit, most times last year, I turned the Nascar races off. If Robby was out or several laps down, there was no reason to watch. And even if he was on the lead lap, God forbid the announcers should ever mention him or we should actually see the car on the track!

As long as we have the Planet to follow Robby, the new ventures all sound good to me! Living on the East coast, it's hard to get information about these other events in which Robby competes, but as long as you West Coasters and insiders can keep us updated, it should be awesome!

Sounds like a fun year on the horizon. Gas on Robby!

I wish his plans involved more Cup racing, and I hope that he finds more sponsorship to help him fund his effort. Still trying to figure out how the whole BAM deal is going to work out though! I'm glad it looks like he has other plans but I would rather be able to watch him on tv then try to track him or have to wait to read how he did. A lot of races last year, I would watch the race to see how Robby did and if he no longer was in the race, I would normally quit watching and go do something else! It just sucks though that he had dreams of becoming another RCR or HMS starting on his on but now that is almost going out the door with just running when he can. If Robby could have just improved more, well I guess he did, but everybody else got that much better I guess, but could have had better runs and moved up in the points each year rather than always being a top 30 team, I just wonder what it could be like now!

Before I get flamed about he did run better, he did run better but the finishes didn't really show it. Maybe Robby is just that unlucky as many seasons as he was, but just because you run better during a race, doesn't mean jack unless you finish the race! Every year it's either a new CC, a new manufactuer or something and I just don't see how this can be good because you are always having to startover. At least this year he is sticking with Toyota and Triad Engines and will have something for the competition when he does show up.

My opinions and views are coming from a fan standpoint being my personal thoughts about his situation. I know he is doing what he can, but it just makes you wonder if he would have made different decisions on things whether or not he would be full time this year or not. It is great though that he has other ideas and plans though if he is not racing on Sundays turning left. A monster truck would be cool, running more dirt would be nice and Indy would be nice if he was competitive, but it still want be as good as being able to catch him on the track every Sunday pulling for your driver and your friends giving you shit for pulling for Robby!

Wow you guys... Many of you are throwing stones. Stop it. Especally the ones saying CUP is the only way. I'm sure 3 weeks ago you didn't follow the Dakar effort. Robby is no fool. While all these CUP guys leave hope and good fortune to dictate their brand. (Bobby Labonte, Elliott Sadler, Kasey Kahne and so on) Robby is smart enough to know it's time to really expand his brand on his own. How big would Robby's brand be if in 2003 he abandoned his own brand and left it up to Richard Childress? No Dakar no Cup ownership, No Score, No CORR. He may be a champion or a chump today. He may be a Jeff Burton. One sponsor away from the rocking chair.

Look he is on a mission this year. For HIS CAREER. He has tons of unfinished business at Indy. He has a personal mission to become the next Mickey Thompson or Sal Fish. Let the guy roll... He knows what he is doing when it comes to marketing HIMSELF.

After he gets another 10 or 20 thousand Indy and Monster trucks fans you will see and have to share The Planet with more than just CUP and Off Road fans.

I think Robby is using this year to go have some fun while weathering the storm of our economy. RGM wll not be shutting it's doors, and the cup program will go on. 5 years ago, when the economy was good, sponsors were writing checks to race teams left and right. Not so today. There will be at least one RGM/BAM car at the track each race, and the owners points will go to the car that makes sense. It's simply the matter of putting the car number on the door. I hope it's the #7, but we'll see. It seems like Nascar is waking up and finding out that fans don't appreciate the parade circuit cup racing has become. Being the showman he is, Robby will gain fans in whatever style of racing. That will certainly make prospective sponsors stand up and take notice.
