STAGE 6: Antofagasta > Iquique

Connection 180 km | Special Stage 418 km | Connection 0 km | Total 598 km

Course Overview

The efforts are equally spread out on the day's special. On the off-piste portion of the first third, the dust will push the competitors to be cautious. The larger and faster tracks that will be at the heart of the program will force those who are fighting for positions to maintain a fast pace. They will however need to keep a good amount of energy: indeed an African type erg awaits at the heart of a sandy portion of around fifty kilometres. But for the final part, the reward will be at the height of the difficulties. After having climbed a last dune, the competitors will take on a slide type sand downhill of close to three kilometres with Iquique and the waves of the ocean on the horizon. An unforgettable scene.

w/ 19 cars in, Robby showing 17th now.... BJ 14th
Well guys and gals here's the silver lining (lemonade out of lemons, etc.) Robby starts 2 spots behind BJ, should be two minutes. They can run together. BJ shouldn't wait for RG, but if BJ runs "just cruisin" till RG catches up, they can run together as long as Robby isn't being held up. If RG has trouble, BJ helps. If BJ has trouble... Well... "See ya, Wouldn't wanna be ya!" That's the winning strategy for tomorrows long stage.
BJ should pull right over and wait. Period.
Hopefully they catch audio of Robby for stage 6. If not, we will have to wait for the videos and post race notes and quotes
I bet he's avoiding microphones and cameras until he cools down. He's got to be really frustrated right now. In the reoports on Dakar.com they are saying a lot of people got lost - I wonder if that's partly what might have bit the Hummers today?
Boy! It looked so promising that today would be another good day for the Hummers. We will need to wait until tomorrow to see what happened. I hope that the front runners start having some problems and allow RG to make up some time.
answer to spare tires onboard, dos...
