STAGE 6: Antofagasta > Iquique

Connection 180 km | Special Stage 418 km | Connection 0 km | Total 598 km

Course Overview

The efforts are equally spread out on the day's special. On the off-piste portion of the first third, the dust will push the competitors to be cautious. The larger and faster tracks that will be at the heart of the program will force those who are fighting for positions to maintain a fast pace. They will however need to keep a good amount of energy: indeed an African type erg awaits at the heart of a sandy portion of around fifty kilometres. But for the final part, the reward will be at the height of the difficulties. After having climbed a last dune, the competitors will take on a slide type sand downhill of close to three kilometres with Iquique and the waves of the ocean on the horizon. An unforgettable scene.

ohh man, lost the English privateer bike rider I was following on twitter, his dream to do his 1st Dakar is over, in hospital (describe like scene from Mash w/ all the other injured riders), w/ broken collar bone.
oN COURSE JUST AHEAD OF bj MUST HAVE GOT HELP FROM HIM.
He is 49:17. Stage wins now.
Must have been a VERY HARD day.
Many teams lost a lot of time.
RG thru & 49+ back
Should put him 6th overall.
RG falls to 6th overall, but only 15 minutes seperates him from getting back to the 4th spot.
16 min ahead of 8th Peterpencil
49 minutes is more than just flats. But he finished, and is still in the race.
Looks like it, doesn't it.
AND....BJ finished too....just keeps on coming.
Stage 7 is the longest of the Rally.
It's so long, competitors are allowed to arrive by 6pm Sat. evening...
talk about the lost boys.
Lots of sand then wide open spaces.
Let's hope the Hummers make time in the dunes.
Someone else might be able to confirm this but with BJ finishing ahead of Robby in the stage, that would have him starting ahead of Robby tomorrow. Might mean he will have to hold back at the start and let Robby get ahead so he can be there if support is needed.
