The Chilean Carlo de Gavardo lived a black day in the third stage of Dakar. The huelquenino was officially disqualified from the race after he failed to pass through checkpoints, a fundamental requirement for timed testing.

The Chilean court sustained the clutch of his Hummer, and had to be towed to the end of the third stage of the competition by a truck. Therefore could not pass through the checkpoints, and suffered a penalty which meant his final exit from the competition.

The Chilean government invested nearly $ 1 million in the order of De Gavardo.

The pilot Huelquen native, will try until the last minute to appeal, and that the organization will allow at least enter Chile as a competitor, it is the direct representative of the Chilean Government, which invested $ 1 million for the conditioning of your car.

De Gavardo knew it would last for a penalty not pass through control points of the third stage, but hoped at least to let him remain competitive, but risked being last in the overall standings.

"The car was walking, but the changes passed and no progress. I thought it was the gearbox, but it was the clutch. I am very disappointed and sorry but I do not pay anyone's leg and enter Chile evil, is not to my liking . The ideal was to get results, but so good, "said a disappointed De Gavardo.

Could be, but for all parties involved I hope it was a bad part.
thus, the sour grapes from Eliseo Salazar. He feels Chile should have backed him, because if his experience, and not Carlo.
Yes,the driving style is a very important factor,i´dont now a carlos firs in V8 ? ,in my case every year ago i have american cars,my 66´mustang 289,72´bronco 302,i feel the V8,this emerican cars soo very diferent driving style to european cars, but the atacama desert is a big oportunitie to learn, this is the choise the Roby Gordon and your team hummer, them inclined to carlos,he have espectacular oportunities
From Eliseo Salazar

The national driver Eliseo Salazar said that the country needs much more prevalent there than supporting the rider Carlo de Gavardo, and held that "such a lot of people are unemployed and do not have to eat."

Salazar said he would have been more transparent than it would have made a public call for financial support from the state and stressed that it was inappropriate to give tax revenue to someone who specializes in cars.

"It gives a contribution to a former motorcyclist, that is not even the same sport, the best thing was that the money had been distributed," he added.

In turn, the Secretary of Chiledeportes, Marcela Gonzalez, when asked about criticism that will fall against the agency she headed, said "we're always going to strongly support the Chilean sport, and especially high-performance athletes."
he is stepping up his voice in the Chilean papers now that Carlo has issues and is out. Ok, maybe Fresh grapes....lol...
it's all really a moot point now. The fanbase loved Carlo de Gavardo, and his reception was rock star everywhere, and that was in Argentina.
TOG, do you know who made the call for the tow? driver? Robby? CC?. Did they know the rules?
Now Jose Martin wants his money back.. WTF
Its easy to second guess. Obviously the tow was the last resort , after all other options were exhausted.
True, just trying to figure this one out. Thankx.
So did Ronn Bailey! Just sayin
. Things break, unexpected is the expected. Things happen, good things and not so good things. Try it again next year, maybe things will be better, maybe not!
I am from Chile and the "issue" is all over the place, the issue of "eliseo, well i would like to tell you guys how he is called here first lol elipeo what means "eli-fart".

Now seriously he wanted the hummer spot at the first place, i think he even signed some kind of contract..

evidence 1 evidence 2

But he could not get the "million" from anywhere...he asked the goverment and they told him there was no money...and now he says that he would never ask money to the goverment for racing

evidence 3 (eliseo`s car look at "visit chile" and "tvn" stickers both are from the goverment)

So now he was/is jealous because the entity in charge of the tourism at Chile put an Ad in Carlo`s Hummer and give him money for that.

Then Eliseo says that Carlo does not have experience racing cars and that he is a biker, last year he was the best overall chilean in the Dakar 2009...what a loooser really, i saw him last year at special stage and looked like he was a tourist he even made some stages in the "highway" missing checkpoints, he blowed his engine at stage 1 and swapped outside the biouvac (source: mechanic of other team), etc etc..

Well this is the 13th Dakar for Carlo de Gavardo (Top 10 all of them), the second in a car. Well he was a top biker for KTM, 3 x FIM World Champion, he made a podium at 2001 Dakar. I think his experience in this kind of races is HUGE and he have what it takes! Just look at Peterhansel transition from bike to car..

Carlo de Gavardo for the win!! (Dakar 2011 lol)
