Just for Fun! Under the old points format would the 48 have won four in a row?
Not to take anything away from the 48 team but! Would they have won four in a row under the old points format? I don't know how to figure this out!
But someone out there can! And if he did "NOT". Should there be a asterisk * by his name in the record book. And if he did "NOT" get four in a row under old format. Then we could all say the new format favored the 48 and it gave him a advantage to winning four in a row. (Your thoughts)

I like the chase. Every form of pro sports uses a playoff system. Why not NASCAR?

NASCAR (and auto racing in general) is so different from ball and stick sports, it's apples and oranges. A lot of people don't consider auto racing as a sport anyway, so why try to be the same?

I disagree. It is different to a point, but there are still many of the same aspects.
The chase system was brought in to tighten up the championship, it has done that. It is a solid system that just needs a few tweaks.

Because NASCAR is the only form of pro sports where all 43 teams compete against each other every week. It doesn't make sense to have playoffs. Like Derrick said, it makes the first 26 races seem pointless.

I don't see how a 'regular season' system is pointless. You have to earn your spot in the 'playoffs'.
Ask Kyle Busch if he thinks the first 26 races are pointless.

Yeah, they earn their spot in the "playoffs" by playing it safe. In baseball, every team goes and tries to win every game everyday.

Where did you get this idea the teams play it safe to get into the playoffs? Mark Martin is a prime example this year that wins were a big part of making a championship run. He would have been 5th in points, almost 400 points behind without his wins in the regular season.

But how many of the stick-and-ball sports allow teams that failed to make the playoffs play in said playoffs and affect the outcome of the teams in the playoff's?

Playoffs are a stupid concept in a league in which everyone plays the same schedule. I know I always use soccer as an example, but look at European soccer leagues--all 18, 20, or 24 clubs play the same exact schedule and whoever's at the top at the end wins.
I disagree, however, with the notion that the Chase makes teams points race more than before--you needn't look further than Matt Kenseth in 2003 for evidence of this; last "old format" season and he was crowned champion after winning only 1 race, but he was consistent and points-raced every week. Now, that being said, I am against the Chase format--it really is stupid, and self-defeating.

My point is this. Yes Matt Kenseth was points racing but EVERYONE else that year was racing hard. 2003 was one of the best years I've seen in Nascar. There was something like 18 or 20 different winners. Good hard racing for the wins is what made Nascar great...not 15 drivers playing it safe so they don't lose points.

Jimmie Johnson won the championship...with the most wins...

Yeah I worded that kind of weird--I do agree with you overall, but I suppose I was just playing Devil's advocate or something with the Kenseth example.
