Without the Chase, Tony would only be 13 pts behind

Johnson would still be in the lead but Stewart would be 13 out and Jeff Gordon wuld be only 56 behind.

I've been following the old points system standings on Jayski. Interesting that with the old system, JJ would have only won one championship. They instituted this Chase system because Kenseth ran away with the lead, claiming that it can't happen with this method. Another one of NASCRAPs finer moments.... Bet since it's one of their golden boys running away with it they'll pat themselves on the back.

I noticed this too, that without the chase it would be a much closer race with 3 drivers instead of 2.

The subtle humor here is that Tony Stewart has always bashed on anyone who brings up "the old points system". The system is gone, and no amount of whining will ever bring it back.

Oh, and Jimmie should clinch the "greatest driver of all time" tag with this championship.
