Robby Gordon Motorsports announced Doug Richert as the crew chief of the #7 Camry for the remainder of the 2009 season. Richert, a NASCAR veteran with more 25 years of experience and 15 Cup wins, will assume the crew chief responsibilities starting at Martinsville this weekend. "Doug brings experience and knowledge to our team, which I hope will help elevate our Cup performance. He has spotted for us since early June, but we are happy to have Doug come on board as crew chief this weekend. He will fill this role for the final five races, and we will see where it goes from there," commented Robby Gordon. "I am really looking forward to this opportunity. Even though I have helped Robby and the #7 team as a spotter, I haven't been associated directly with a team since last May. This opportunity will allow me to be more hands-on in the decisions of the #7, which I hope will directly improve the team's performance. I am looking forward to the rest of the year and continuing to push forward," commented Doug Richert.(RGM)(10-20-2009)

the 71 and TRG run RCR cars!
Don't know about you folks but I am totally thrilled to have Doug on the box. I had hoped this might happen from the beginning when he was spotting for RG!
Doug has got Two things going for him as a crew chief and I say again he has Two things going for him as a crew chief...
1. He won a championship (may have been a while ago but he did)

2. (this is most important) He gets alot face time with CHAD KNAUS (he just needs to learn how to say "Hey old Buddy old Pal" real nice and get a set up or two for a race).......
I still figure there's gotta be a reason Doug couldn't land a CC gig until now....
just because you havent heard about them , doesnt mean stuff hasnt been happening behind the scenes for Doug since his last CC gig.
You're right, and to chase this line of discussion any further would be useless. He's the man now. If we are true Robby fans, we'll be nothing but supportive. I still stand behind my oft-stated claim regarding Robby at Homestead...but I wish to add Texas as an "and/or"
Whatever it takes to finish the season strong and work on the 2010 season
Reins, reigns, rains, whatever Robby will always be the CC. Lets hope Doug will be a good assistant.
I think Doug Spotting for all this time has cemented an on track relationship. Could be very good for chemistry on the box.
The fact that he has been working with the #7 as long as he has, to establish a relationship and have a true understanding of what he is getting into, is what actually provides some hope for something positive coming from this latest CC change.
You can sure tell the New bee's! They are all excited about a new CC.... And then their are the people who have lived the dream at least 4 times. Best of luck Doug.
I agree, surely Robby is aware that Mr. Richert has been around for quite some time and has to respect his opinion. Doug may not have all the answers for the COT yet, but I'm sure thru his experience and networking in the garage he can find more solutions. My hope for this arrangement is that the car will be closer to where it needs to be when it's first unloaded off the truck. Going to have to wait and see...
