Nascar Roundup (Radio segment)
During the spotlight on Jim Beam & Jack Daniels leaving, they played a interview with Robby Gordon

Robby how is your team looking for next season?
Robby - "We're okay for next season. We have alot of good things hapenning at RGM. Our offroad program is hoping to finish up with a Championship. We won Baja. We have alot of exciting things happenning with the Dakar Rally. Our Cup program is getting better, once we quit beating ourselves I think we'll suprise some people, We have Menards & Mapei coming back next season. We have Polaris coming onboard. We have a couple of opportunities for some of our sponsors on our offroad side to benefit with our Cup program. We have a couple of sponsors we're in discussions with that would be great to have join us. If Indy changes their start time, we have a sponsor ready to go for that deal, both Indy & Charlotte. I think Nascar is looking at ways to trim the costs more, which really benefits teams like ours. Jim Beam has been a great sponsor for us, we hate to see them leave and we have a relationship that will continue."

I would do the rcr deal. He would have the team in place and would be locked into the first 5 races.
I'm not going to hold my breath on the Indy thing, if RG announces he's doing the 500 then I'll get excited. The rest of 2010 looks pretty good.
I think the big questions for 2010 are: Who will be the new crew chief and what does he bring to the table? With the uncertainty of the Yates / RPM merger and Paul's no comment, is it possible we may see RGM with 2 cars next year? Will RGM have all their sponsors lined up by Daytona? Will the next batch of COT's that RGM builds allow the team more top 20 finishes? Lastly, who will replace Hummer in the 2011 Dakar?
It would be just great if he could race at the indy 500 next year. It would be another chance to put a lid on that nightmare that was 1999. Wonder if Menard would have Robby in bright yellow instead of Ed Carpenter in that race ?
Feel sad about Jim Beam leaving. They have been fantastic.
Still plenty of 2009 left, many questions will be answered after the season. It will be fine.
Turtle, I'd almost think it a given that Doug steps in as CC. If it's a plan in action that Kirk is "retiring", it would seem Doug coming on board was/is part of that plan.
As for Paul, I'll stop short of saying it ain't gonna happen. Anythings possible...but don't hold your breath.
Sponsors, Robby only needs 1 primary to run Daytona...
COT's, RGM has been gaining on the intermediate program all this year. I'd be disappointed to see anything less in 2010. Frankly I'm more worried about building a pit crew. Yes these guys are improving,& just like the chassis' I'd be disappointed to see anything less than progress in 2010.
Lastly, I've personaly talked to Rob regarding Hummer. He has NO plans of changing bodies, or persuing any other manfacture support even after the Hummer deal is up. Don't get me wrong, for the right deal they could change the powertrain & bodies...but Robby isn't hunting that deal down
Doug is the best thing to happen to RGM in the past couple of years. I love listening to him on the radio. He is always calm and knows exactly what to do and when it should be done. Now if we could get the team owner to stay in the hauler and the driver to listen to Doug things might get that much better.
That holds true w/ several of RG's cc's. Between '05 & now RG's had some talent on top of that box. It doesn't really matter how much is up there though, when thats not where the calls are being made.
Case in point - Marcus Ambrose & Frank Kerr. Hey, there's a though for a second car!?
TRUTH!

Back when Kirk got the job everyone seemed to think that his coming on board was the best thing to happen for RGM...
TRUTH

Nothing wrong with having positive expectations for your favorite driver.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results
