Bob Pockrass spoke to Robby for about 30 minutes after qualifying on Friday at Dover.

DOVER, Del. – Robby Gordon lost one of his bigger sponsors this week, but the driver/owner has several sponsors that should help him handle the departure of Jim Beam.

Gordon said Jim Beam was the primary sponsor for 12 races this year and a to-be-announced sponsor has committed for four of those, leaving him eight to replace from that sponsorship next year.

Menards and Mapei are returning, and Gordon said he has a good opportunity for other sponsors such as Polaris, Monster and Camping World to return.

“The nice thing about our program is one sponsor does not dictate the whole swing of things,” Gordon said Friday at Dover International Speedway. “I don’t know if that’s by design or just by luck over the years. When Harrah’s went away a couple of years ago, they were an equal partner of Beam and we continued for three more years.

“Obviously we’ve got to find new partners. Jim Beam has been a great sponsor for five years, and I appreciate what they’ve done. That said, it is what it is. This is what we do – we race cars.”

Gordon said he can generate a lot of exposure through his various racing avenues, which includes offroad racing. He said he is still not interested in merging with another team.

“We’re five years down the road headed in one direction,” said Gordon, who drove for car owners Felix Sabates and Richard Childress before starting his own NASCAR team in 2004. “And that’s obviously the best thing for our company. We mix other things as well. My shop just doesn’t work on stock cars. The machine shop works on off-road parts. Those two programs work hand-in-hand and they both need each other.”

One thing that could help Gordon is if the Indianapolis 500 starts earlier next year, allowing a driver to do both that race and the Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.

“I have a sponsor that I talked to today that said they would take Indy and Charlotte at the right dollars today,” said Gordon, who has extensive experience in open-wheel cars. “They’ve already told me that. If Indy changes, I think you can count me in it - with a new sponsor, a different sponsor that’s not on my car today.”

There also might be another opportunity for sponsorship if Toyota gives the team some engineering help and engine stuff, but Dodge has lost a three-car team in Richard Petty Motorsports.

Gordon drove a Dodge without a contract with the manufacturer in 2008.

“We do have a relationship there, and that’s all I can say on that matter,” said Gordon, who is 33rd in points. “I think our cars, we run good at times. What we have to do is the ‘at times’ part, we have to figure out how to make them run all the time better.”

agreed! As long as he is running somewhat competitive equiptment as now or hopefully better, we are all glad to have the opportunity to cheer he and the team on each week.
Amen! While I'd love to see him take the checkers... even thrill at a top 10... just by finishing a race he scores a win for the little guys everywhere who struggle every day to compete against big business. Let's face it, that's what NASCAR really is today. When you have a great product and the business smarts to stay afloat, you'll survive. You'll gain a following and in turn, exposure. Robby has it all. From another proud fan...
Oh yeah! Fulltime in Cup, plus Baja, Dakar, & Indy 500 too! Yep!

He does treat his sponsors very well, I think thats why a lot of them keep coming back. They know Robby is going to burn them.
Well....I can tell y'all that INDY moving their starting time is a pretty damn good possibility......like it would really surprise me if at this point it is not moved back to the traditional 11am start...I've heard it's all but been announced.........

My speculation is that Robby would drive INDY for RGM.......nobody else...he would have his own team and cars and it sounds like he has found a partner to make it happen.......LONG overdue...I hope it happens.....
Robby back to DODGE would Be AWESOME!!!
I know too many folks who still race Indy...Robby isn't in his 20's anymore and has not raced open wheel for quite some time. It actually scares me to think he would just go hop into an Indy car and try to conquer that like he goes at everything else...anyone who knows open wheel should know better. He would need some time to re-acclimate to the cars before racing his way into Indy. I understand his desire to go back; but why bother if you are rusty and can't race for the win? I just fear his reflexes would be different now after so long in the stock car. Plus let's see him get into the top 15 in NASCAR on a regular basis BEFORE we venture off into Indy again.
Gee, let's not pass Robby off to the retirement home just yet....I'm pretty sure he knows better than anyone what his capabilities are, and where his priorities lie as far as his different interests in racing.
good info!!! nice insite
Very positive state of mind. It would be great for the stock car program to have more factory support. Jim Beam will be missed. A thanks goes out to the them. RGM does a great job with sponsors he has and will continue to do more with them in other forms of racing, with NASCAR and off-road, and maybe Indy that would cover alot of TV exposure.
As to the Dodge switch, we know that Fiat has some deep European pockets and has Ferrari and Alpha as racing brands. Their technology could help Dodge with their NASCAR programs. But, I think this is just a negotiating ploy to get Toyota to up their support. To bad RGM can't work an Engineering deal with Gibbs who seems to be the most consistent of the Toyota shops.

But we have also seen recently that Robby has beaten the 20 in races. This could mean that RGM's COT technology is slowly improving.
i honestly think robby has done better with toyota then dodge. he just needs to stick with toyota to get better notes. toyota is much better than dodge
